Power windows using key

i have a new (to me) 98 SR5, the back window will roll up and down with the key, and the mostly useless little booklet that came with it says the other four windows should roll down when i turn the key in the driver side keyhole.

Only problem is, the other 4 windows don't roll down, and i would like to fix it but i don't know how. Any thoughts?

On my '02 4runner (same generation as yours), i canNOT roll down the windows by the driver's side keyhole. The only thing you can do is unlock the doors.

I never knew that you could roll down the 4 windows with the drivers keyhole. I don't think it's even an option on that vehicle.

Question As long as we're talking about power windows...

I've got a 1990 SR5 model...the power back window was working perfectly and then just stopped working. The PW relay seems to be working (there's power in all the right places in the tailgate wiring harness), so I'm guessing that it's the motor.

Okay...can anyone tell me how to get the back window down so that I can open the tailgate and replace the motor? I'm kind of a big guy with a bad back so sitting in the back of my Runner working on this stuff is literally a pain in the butt.

Also, are there detailed instructions for dealing with the tailgate/rear window assemblies anywhere, preferably with pictures?

Thanks,

Mike

Before you go tearing the tailgate apart check this...

Is the lock out feature for the windows activated? The little button on the driver's door arm rest that locks the other windows from going up and down, is this pushed down? You might have pushed it down by accident without realizing it. This locks the tailgate window as well.

I'd check the VIN with the dealer to see if you have that option or capability, if it is even an option. If it is supposed to work on your rig, make the dealer fix it since he told you that you have it. Never heard of a 4Runner doing that before.

Arrow Power rear window problem

Wabbit, my window lock is on my center console, and it was the first thing I checked when the window stopped working (i'm pretty thorough).

Basically I'm trying to find out how to manually lower the window so that I can unlock and open the gate.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

Just wanted to make sure...I am sure lots of folks have thought their rear window had quit when in essence they had the window lock button on. As far as tearing into that thing, get onto www.yotatech.com and use the search feature on the 4x4, SUV and truck forum. You should find something there. If not, post your question from here there and someone will help you I'm sure.

Hope this helps!
