Broken rear window assembly

Hey everyone I have a big problem with my 95 4Runner. The window assembly in the tailgate is broken. The two brackets that connects the window to the regulator is rusted to hell and crumbled apart on me. Part of the regulator is also rusted. So i went to the Toyota dealer and got a prive quote for about 30 dollars for the two brackets that needs to be replaced. When I took the car to a mechanic, they quoted me for 325 just to replace those brackets. WTF? How hard is it to replace the window assembly myself? A question i have is, do u glue the brackets to the window?

Accessing the window assembly and replacing those 2 brackets takes time, a lot of patience and some muscle.

The replacement brackets have rubber gaskets that you have to slide onto the window. I replaced mine last year, because they were completely rusted out, and it took a lot of soap and leverage to get them on. Working on anything to do with that tailgate is a real PITA...Good luck.

attach window to rails

Did you ever figure out how to replace the brackets? I have a 2000 4Runner and have a similar issue. The glass is OK, but my problem is the glass became separated from the rails that look to be glued onto the window (and then fit into a channel on each side of the regulator). Any ideas on what to buy to fix that? The rails themselves seem OK, but I either need to get new ones (what part to buy?) or figure out how to glue them back on like they were before. Any ideas? Thanks.
