Yeah I am seeing more and more 4Runners out here. Some built, most not. I think the FJ going away has brought in a lot of new 4Runner owners since that's not an option anymore.
As for Pismo, I rolled a Pathfinder there about 10 years ago when I was stupid and didn't know what I was doing, so as a rule I stay away from there now lol. Maybe I can go and rent a Quad 🤔.

How did it happen? I'm still fairly new at it and the chili hole does pucker up when heading down some of the dunes.

Above all else I was dumb and didn't know what I was doing. Here's a synopsis:
-didn't air down
-tires probably fairly bald (truck was 2 weeks new to me at that point but was a badass 2 door, 4x4, 5sp, v6, with a lift and larger tires installed. It was cherry and I miss it lol).
-came over one dune into another and was in the middle of a monster dune all of a sudden. Saw tire tracks leading through to the far side so I figured I'd follow that line, got into the dune and it was super soft stuff, wheels locked, slid some to my left, then (critical error) rather than turn down and head down the dune I thought I could power up it, got to a bad angle with no power/traction and tipped it on my left, barrel rolled 3 times down this thing and landed on my drivers side windows.
Ripped 3 tires off their rims and busted half the glass on her but we were able to flip her to all 4's and drive her out!

Is Camino Cielo open again? I thought I heard it was closed for a while after the winter storms. Want to head back up there sometime.
Anyway, not sure what is up north of that, but east of you there are some fun trails at Rowher Flats. You could also head north from there to Gorman. Both a bit of a drive from Goleta, but the closest in the area.

I say when it cools down a bit we make a run to Gorman. It's where I did my first more real off-roading and offers trails for all.
Plus there are lots of trails along the Lockwood road that connects Ojai to Frazier Park/Gorman area.

Maybe we should do a meet and greet then plan a trail run out of that event

That would be cool... what do you have going on the week of Sept 5? I'll be flying in from Toronto.

I drove it twice in the before the fires so I guess its open now. Pretty sure they have closed it again now since the fire line was right there.
