Anza Borrego

Ive been wanting to head out to anza borrego recently. Ive only been out there a few times, and not with the runner. I read up on a few trails that sparked my interest like fish creek>sandstone canyon. This trails seems to be easy enough( stock 85' with my wife, 1yr old son, and dog). We will most likely be spending a whole weekend out there to make good use of time. My friend with a stock truck will also be running with us .

If anyone would be so kind as to suggest some other trails to occupy our time out there i would appreciate it. Im open to a little more difficult trails as my friend would probably leave his truck at camp. Also if anyone wants to join us the more the merrier. Thanks in advance

Several weeks back I camped for a night in the Blair Valley area. It was nice (albeit windy when we were there) and there were some cool hiking trails nearby but pretty lacking in any sort of technical off-roading. You may want to check ExpeditionPortal.com; there are lots of Anza Borrego trip reports/threads there.

If you're going to fish creek make sure you check out the wind caves

I agree fish creek and the wind caves did it in my stock Subaru with some cautious driving

Near Blair Valley is the famous Squeeze and the Pinyon Dropoff. These are not to be taken lightly. I recommend going to the visitor center in Borrego Springs and getting a guidebook which has all of the trails and ratings of each trail (or going to your local bookstore as they should have one too). Coyote Canyon used to be a sweet trail but the park has bypassed much of the original trail which actually was in portions of the creek. I like the Canyon Sin Nombre areas (south of Ocotillo Wells) as the trails down there are moderate to difficult.

Thanks for your input boyfester, i was considering both squeeze and pinyon drop off. But knowing my truck is my DD at the moment and my son in the vehicle i had a change of mind.

Nice link keemonrunnin, i just found that map yesterday, best general trail map i have found.

Will post up some pics after the trip knowing there is some interest in pictures of a place that is heavily photographed( not much pics out there of a first gen though
Does anyone know if pinyon drop off and diablo drop off has a route around the difficult sections. From the maps it seems they are one-way and ill be entering the area from split mountain road. Dont want to have to turn around when i get there

Pinyon is one way although I did see a Jeep with front and rear lockers go up once. It's an insane hill up or down. I've only gone down via motorcycle, never in a truck. Arroyo Tapiado is a cool trail too and you can do a loop there plus there is a big mud cave to explore and slot canyons.
