Mojave Road next weekend

So I have to be in Las Vegas on Monday, 3/28 at noon and I'm planning to spend the weekend exploring on the way there. Who has done this? Does anyone want to join? Plan is to leave LA on Friday night and spend the night just inside the park then spend Saturday driving through, maybe (probably) explore a bit and stay the night on Saturday too.

Yeah, I think two full days is a nice leisurely drive (I plan to only drive to the 95 then head north, starting at Zzyzx). You could do it one loooong day. I mean, one could ride that far on a bicycle in one long day. From what i can tell there are definitely sections you can drive 30mph (or more). But yeah, one night out there is certainly the comfortable, safe, and most enjoyable way to go.

Kelbaker would be a good place to join the Mojave Road, either from the 15 or 40 fwy, then across to Ivanpah and bail out heading north to LV or if you are brave, continue to Piute pass on to the 95 in Calif, then north to LV.

Depending on how much of the road you want to run. I'm not sure if you can join the Mojave road from Zzyzx and that would be short trip.

If you want an easy scenic route, take Kelbaker to Kelso-Cima road and then to Cedar Canyon across to Ivanpah Rd and 95 north. It joins and parallels the Mojave road.

Have a look at an old post of mine. Mojave Preserve - Lava Tubes Scenic drive Sunday
