Big Bear 01/28/17

Hi. Normally I like to shred (snowboard) after a winter storm but this time around I'd rather hit the trails with the rig. Anyone interested going to Big Bear this Saturday for some snow wheeling? Or any place for that matter.

Might do an easy trail early Sunday morning. We have a stock fj62 on MT tires with us this weekend.

Thinking of starting at Willow Creek Jeep Trail and connect to whatever trails from there.

I'd be interested in doing something this weekend in the Big Bear area-Saturday probably better than Sunday. I've only got one set of chains though-and I know that CHP can require chains on all tires in certain conditions-should I pick up another set just in case?

I am going to be up in a cabin in the Lake Arrowhead area this weekend and was thinking of doing some wheeling, however, I have no chains, would it still be possible to be out there with no chains?

Having someone out there so I am not alone would also be smarter (another reason of why I am hesitant, as I have never been wheeling there) and leaning more towards giving it a shot with a group.

I'm definitely headed up there with my buddy who haa a Tacoma.

If anyone else is headed up in a small group PM me and we can swap contsct info.

There have been some Epic SoCal runs with 20-30 trucks in the last few months. I am hoping next weekend the trails will be empty.

Go snowboarding everyone But if you do head up then I hope everyone has a great time.

CHP will never require chains on all tires. R3 is the highest restriction and that requires a pair of chains/cables on all cars regardless of 4wd and snow tires.

Went to Big Bear once and they enforced this. I was in a Subaru WRX at that time

I'll be up there this weekend along with my buddy who has a Tacoma. We don't have anything set and will probably be hitting a lot of trails. Definitely going to check out White Mtn tho.

Hmm. Seems like I misread something then. Cool.

Big Bear 01/28/17

I was up there this past weekend and didn't need chains. Came through the back road on Coxey Rd. in Hesperia to 3N14 for a little snow wheeling.

At the intersection of 3N14 and 3N16 there were no tire tracks headed in either direction. We decided to stay on 3N14 and were able to get as far as an incline after the intersection with 3N93. Tried going up the hill using crawl control, locking the rear diff, and trying to dig snow out of the way. No luck! Snow was about 18"-20" deep up there. Had to reverse out and head back so the kids could play in the snow a bit. Overall it was a fun time with lots of snow, mud, and plenty of puddles. After this trip I now have on my shopping list a winch, TredPros or MaxTrac, and Bubba Rope. Will definitely be better prepared next time.

If I wouldn't of just been out there this past weekend we would've signed up. Have fun out there and be safe. Post some pics after the trip.
