Sat 6/29 > Palomar Divide or Berdoo Canyon? Anyone interested?
My copilot (kid) and I are wanting to get out this weekend.
Palomar Divide looks to have just reopened & could be just a day trip on Saturday. We've been wanting to check it out.

Or... last weekend I was up at Joshua Tree and drove the really gorgeous Geology Tour Trail, which connects down to the valley through Berdoo Canyon. Sounds like that one should probably be done with more than one vehicle, so I held off... but would like to go give it a try. That would probably be an overnight--coming back Sunday.
Berdoo Canyon - California Offroad Trail
Anyone interested in either???

Good to hear that Palomar is back open. That is a lot closer than Berdoo.
Ran Berdoo 2 yrs ago during a family holiday trip to Palm Desert. Pic kyour lines as there are ones a stock rig can handle and there are others with more larger rocks you might hit your skids on. Obviously that being 2 years ago trail could have changed a lot.
Have fun and thanks for keeping us in mind.

Ended up doing Palomar Divide today. Made the HUGE tactical error of starting the trail around lunchtime, but people weren't hungry so we said we'd go eat after... except that it's a very slow 22 miles!! Took us 4 hours. And you could easily spend more time up there if you did any side hikes. Though in truth there aren't that many places to get out and do stuff other than drive.
We all wanted to gnaw our arms off by the time we were done... and the trail was overly long under those conditions.
Going S to N, the road was paved (really really crappy old falling apart pavement) up until the Ware Mine. We were really disappointed. But happily the pavement ends and the road is, well, interesting in places! And beautiful!!
We did see a Mercedes sedan at the top of Halfway Truck Trial on Palomar Divide. All scratched up. No idea how or why someone got that thing up there. Wonder if it was stolen and ditched??

Glad ya had fun ... and the entire trail can be long depending on what you do and what gates are open.
There are a few turn offs like High Point Truck Trail / Oak Grove, etc etc that can cut some time off the trip if you need to get back to pavement. But once you're in that northern section you're committed.
Did ya hit the fire tower at the top? Always a fun stop for lunch or a break and get some fresh air.

By the time that we got to that turnoff, the girls were so hungry (and one of them getting carsick because she was so hungry) that we decided to save it for another day...
