Lytle Creek Trip

Hello!

I recently watched a YouTube vid on Lytle Creek and the yellow post camping.

I'm interested in going up there with my kids but I saw on the Forest website it's not reachable by vehicle.

Has anyone been lately? Anyone interested in going the week of 4th of July?

Thx!

I was just up there a few weeks ago and I went all the way to the last yellow post site with no problems. It is really rocky one the road ends but nothing crazy. I have to work that weekend of else I’d join you but good luck and have fun!

I think I saw the same vid you did. I've been up around Lytle creek a bit, but I don't remember any yellow post camp sites. Up past the shooting range area. Tried to go to baldy but it was gated, saw a small off shoot that looked like camping, and ran the trails up to the top of the mountain (didn't make it all the way due to snow).

I'll dig into it a bit, but I'm going to hard pass on a holiday weekend up there (gets packed).

How busy are the yellowpost sites?

Looking to camp in July. Do I have a chance to snag a spot if we camp on a Wednesday?

Any tips would be helpful

Thanks

From my experience they’re usually not that busy during the week but it is first come first serve so it’s hard to know what’s available till you get up there. I would suggest going up there before hand and seeing where the spots are exactly so that when u go to actually camp you’ll already have an idea of where the spots are

There are a few yellow posts up there off lytle creek road / baldy road. Was there a few weeks ago to try to snag the last yellow post up the north trail but ended up next to a small creek with a tiny waterfall. PM me and I'll share coords. Not that they're super secret or anything.

Thank you to all the replies. My apologies for not responding. Need to turn notifications on somehow as i checked the first few days but didnt see any replies.

It was a very successful camping trip. Went up on a Tuesday and there was only one person camping on the lower camp site near the very shallow water crossing. I do not suggest that site as there is NO flat ground and it is so rocky, you cannot get any stakes in the ground. We continued up the hill which def is more of an intermediate trail and had the hole top to ourselves. Yellow Post site 19 i believe.

Thanks that’s some good info. I live about 20-30 mins away from Lytle Creek and regularly go to the range up there. To get to yellow post 19 do you continue past the shooting range where the paved road ends and just continue straight?

Continue straight from the paved road past the range down the trail (air down first) then you will see an entrance to cross the dry riverbed. The entrance to that specific trail is a little difficult to see but I can send you the GPS coordinates if you want, just PM me. The trail is labeled as 3N06A.

I ran 3N06 toward maybe #5 camp spot, 3N33 to 3N31, and the begining of 3N06B...

It was pretty rocky on the creek bed... Some nice ruts

3N06A is fun and super challenging with a great view at the end! Check it out next time!

Figured out where this is lol. If I got up there this Sunday I'll check the sites out. Did the rear baldy trail not that long ago, so the cut off is a bit sooner then the baldy trail. Did mark it on my Gaia GPS stuffs.
