Camping in Sequoias

Hello SoCal Peeps

Looking for a good spot to camp in the South Sequoias near fishing spots and away from humans.

Anyone have experience over there? Any hidden gems you can share?

Appreciate the help!

~Kelly

If you are looking to fish, there's a quite a few dispersed camping areas (and many more reserved) along the Kern river. I can share with you a few specific if you cant find it. Google "dispersed camping Kern river".

There aren't many dispersed that are right near the creek, unless you are doing reserved, or first come first server.

I would head up towards sequoia on highway 99 and check them out, there's literally 10+ sites.

If you go up all the way to sequoia, you have to check if the campsite you are going to is open, some are but not.

In Sequoia specifically, there's a lot of dispersed. Also google it and you will find some. We went up to upper peppermint which is also dispersed. The creek area was closed off but there was plenty of forest to go around.

Happy adventures! Do share where you end up going.

I don't know too many spots in the southern areas but I've been up to Coyote Flat and Funnel Lake a few times now and that place is amazing. Definitely a hidden gem. It seems like it's been more crowded the past couple times I've gone, probably due to more people knowing about it thanks to social media and youtube videos. There's still PLENTY of dispersed camping to go around up there on or near the flat, but it's probably cold/closed now or soon for winter.

Sequoia, not Sierra.

Sequoia NF is a treasure trove of dirt roads and dispersed camping. Get Gaia GPS and get lost.

Oh yup read that wrong haha. Ya I've done some exploring up there a couple times and it's one of my favorites. First time I went up there I checked out Buck Rock Fire Lookout and that place is super cool.
