Dont you worry! Not much difficult/technical stuff in Death Valley. It'll be fun and relatively calm/safe.

Yeah that’s what I’m starting to worry about. If I don’t go in a few weeks it’ll probably have to be spring before I can make it down that way. I will have to keep checking the fire maps and weather

What week were you aiming to head over? I can keep you updated with daily AQ reports and sat shots.

You end up heading out to Death Valley? I'm definitely interested in a trip sometime this winter if one is being put together. San Diego Overland just did a decent size weekend trip out to Anza Borrego and that looked like fun. Maybe they can do a Death Valley trip.

Just got back from a 4 day trip in DV. Of the notable trails, we hit Lippincott Road and Mengel Pass. Both have considerable pucker factors, but I wouldn't have traded it for anything. It was a great time!!

Did you go up the hill (side trail) not to far from the Mengel burial site? That thing was pretty damn rutted last time I went (year ago)

I hope to drive a few trails there in the second half of December. Lippincott Road and Mengel Pass are on the list.

I actually will be in DV around that time too. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to meet up!

No, I don't recall doing that one. When we were going through Goler/Mengel, it was about 3pm and we were doing our best to get to Geologist Cabin or Stella's Cabin before sundown so we could make camp.

Both are fun! have good spotters with you. Would also recommend checking the weather forecast and the facebook page for Death Valley Road Conditions to ensure that both trails haven't washed out before you attempt them!
