So is there a trail report thread, or did everyone have such a horrible time they don't want to post anything?
I had a good time once I got things rolling, late start, truck ran out of gas, then pulled up to meet location just as the group was moving out so fell in line.
I met some new people, enjoyed hanging out at the water crossing even though my girlfriend fell and stuck her hands in poison oak and Ivy. After the run we went to the picnic area by Lake Hemet and ate our lunch relaxing for about an hour or a little more. After our picnic lunch we decided to drive up 6S13 to a Yellow post site and let Ranger run a little more while we soak in the Mountains. Did a little monkeying around and climbed a tree or two, saw two hang gliders take off and do their thing for a little bit. After about two hours of enjoying the views, air, hang gliders we headed down 5S15 which took us right behind the Cranston flats fire station. On the way down 5S15 we saw a 5+ ft gopher snake sunning itself on the rock slope along the road.
All in all it was a good day. Let me know if you want some of the few pics we took.

So it doesn't sound like it was loads of fun?! I was pretty bummed I didn't go .
Pikeman - do you have a link to the "Yellow post site" or a link that points out all of them?

It was a fun day, even with the comedy of errors trying to get started and the whole girlfriend getting poison oak. She still had a great time.
@DLAK--- I told you I was monkeying around, so that mammal in the third picture would fall under the description of homosapien goofious sub filum dorkimus maximus.
@ Danny I don't know of a computer file that shows them but at each of the Ranger stations they have a very rudimentary line drawing that shows Yellow post sites for that area.

My sons and I had a great time, but we are noobs at trails. Momma was not as thrilled with the bumpy ride but enjoyed the small water crossing.
Per Mike's suggestion we found a neat place to have a picnic lunch after the trail.
Looking forward to going somewhere new next time.
Had the Garmin GPS in the Runner, but can anybody suggest a good set of paper maps to cover the So Cal area as a point of reference to keep in the truck?
My kids are competing in a huge Martial Arts tournament near Azusa on May 26 so I may hit the OHV park the some went to a few weeks ago before they fight in the afternoon. I will drive the trails in the morning.
Good to meet you guys.

Books I have and use.
1. California Trails: South Coast Region (adler publishing. Peter Massey, Jeanne Wilson and Angela Titus)
2. Back Country Adventures: Southern California(Swagman Publishing. Peter Massey and Jeanne Wilson)
3.Guide to Southern California backroads &4 wheel drive trails
I also carry several different paper maps and carry extras for everyone. Since i volunteer with the San Bernardino Forest I have a good supply of maps for the SB Forest which includes the Idywild area. Next time we wheel I can give you a set of paper maps WFO.
There are many dispersed camping opportunities on the forest.
Dispersed or undeveloped camping provides more solitude and an opportunity to "rough it." Camping is allowed in Yellow Post Sites, Dispersed sites, and in Wilderness campsites.
Yellow Post Sites
Yellow Post Sites are campsites within remote areas on back roads or trails where campfires are allowed as long as the fire stays within the designated fire ring and fire restrictions allow. A free California Campfire Permit is required for any Yellow Post site in the Forest. Sites are available on a firstcome, first-served basis. An Adventure Pass may be required.
•Picnic tables may be at some locations.
•Pack it in, pack it out. trash disposal is not available, take everything you brought with you when you leave.
Undeveloped or Dispersed Area Camping
Undeveloped or Dispersed areas are designated areas away from highways and development where camping along back roads or trails is permitted. Because of year-around fire danger, wood or charcoal fires are not allowed (includes charcoal in a BBQ). Chemical or propane stoves may be used if you have a free California Campfire Permit, which may be obtained at the local Ranger Station. "Know before you go" and check at the nearest Ranger Station for a map of the Remote Camping Areas and the current fire restrictions.
General Rules for remote camping:
•No wood or charcoal fires
•Chemical and propane stoves allowed with California Campfire Permit
•Camp at least 200 feet from springs, water, meadows, trails and roads
•Camp at least a quarter-mile from designated campgrounds, picnic areas, trailheads
•Camp at least a quarter-mile from private property and state highways
•Pack out all trash
•Leave no trace

How did I miss this run? Oh wait, because it's at the BOTTOM of the T4R page. These trails threads need to be moved way way up on the page.
Glad some got to go. Hope to make it out on the next one.
