Count me in, wife and daughter. Might convince friend with 3rd Gen 4runner to tag along.

Hey Mark,
Is there any news on the BB meeting?
For me it's looking like May is out. I'm headed to Utah the end of the month for a vacation.

I'll go up to big bear as long as all the 4x4's are gonna run some of the trails. Plus I should be able to drag along the rest of the SD crew.
It's gotta be worth the time spent taking off my stock set of rims/tires for the offroad ones

I'm going to drive up to BB area by myself on Saturday 30th. Scouting around . I expect that the 7th is a good date based on the few pm's I have recieved, but to be honest I have been putting this on the backburner due to the low responses.

At this stage, I don't know if the meetup day will be the way I envisaged. My wife is likely to be working so I'd rather have just a brief lunch break rather than a BBQ and then get onto the trails.

Originally I was thinking an easy morning drive that any 4Runner could travel, break for a BBQ lunch then break up into groups depending upon who wanted easy, moderate & difficult trails (all of which can be found up there).

Anyhow, I'll think about this more carefully after my recon on Sat.

Lance - is your truck up and running already? I thought it was going to be out of action till the end of the year.

I've gotta get time to instal the Daystar spacers.....

Cheers
Mark

I might have a small opportunity to have my 4runner in "running" conditions but can't do any difficult trails until the end of the year.

It'll be in-between stages of the build so I can't tackle anything hard until it's completely done

With that said, I'm trying to get my truck atleast in driving condition again by the weekend of May 7. I wanted to hit the mtns just to get away from the city life so who knows.

Ok...so I didn't get up to Big Bear on the weekend to scope things out but the surf was too good to leave town

Here's what I propose

Saturday 7th (I can do Sunday if necessary)

Plan A

Meet 10am

If we have two or more 2WD Runners then we should first do Skyline Drive (easy) starting from Balsam Drive (off the 18). Take this all the way to the Aspen Glen Picnic Area for a quick lunch. This is a 2hr drive for 13 miles.

From here we could do Clarke's Summit (moderate) 4-5 hrs for 30miles.

Then home

Plan B

Meet 10am

If we have no 2WD we could choose from Clarke's Summit (moderate), Rattlesnake Canyon (moderate) 4hrs, and/or Jacoby Canyon (moderate) less than 1hr.

I don't think that anyone (?) here so far wants to do the "difficult" trails. Based on "Guide to California Backroads & 4WD Trails" I don't think my stock Runner will deal with the difficult trails.

Soooooo....who's going to commit to this?

This sounds like a good opportunity to get dirty. Let me check with my scheduler to see if it can be penciled in.

Is this still a bring the wife and kids excursion? This last weekend I left the wife at home while I went out into the Mojave. So now I need something to do with the wife - pretty scenery and long, leisurely picnic lunch being key words.

Im ready to go, but i have a fealing this isnt going to be the HUGE SO CAL meet.

What if we do a parking lot car show meet, then do a trail run? Like sport compacts do with canyon runs. The only thing with this would be the location. City location, but close enough to the mountains.

So are we doing a the HUGE one or just for fun?

HUGE...lol...no! For fun I think.

I won't be bringing the family as the replies for this meet didn't match what people were asking for in the past.

My initial post on this was a family get-together cum trail ride as various posters in the past mentioned things like car park meetup, show and shine etc. I tried to combine the two to give a bit to everyone but.....

I thought it might be a good intro to offroading for the members who had mostly garage queens.

Personally I'd rather do another Anza Borrego or Death Valley over a weekend before it gets too hot, but no-one seems to be planning these (except at YT) and I am not familiar enough to suggest routes in this regard.

Nevermind...what ever you guys want. Plan A or B? I think we can meetup in a carpark and hit a trail as part of either plan.

Cheers
Mark

I'd like to go. DV, Hungrey Valley, or Anza sounds good as well.
