Hey all 64 SoCal T4R members...HUGE meetup!

So I think it would be kind of cool to arrange a get-together of as many SoCal 4Runners as possible.

This would be a combined
- meet/show/shine
- family BBQ
- some offroad trecking for those who want to
- a one day affair (could be longer if people wanted to, especially those traveling from SD etc.)

Given the spread of people, I was thinking of meeting up in the Big Bear area (central location) where there are lots of different trails people can drive depending upon whether they have 2 or 4wd.

As an example, if we met up at Balsam Drive and drove the Skyline Drive (2hrs / 13miles) stopping at Aspen Glen Picnic Area for a lunch BBQ. (Skyline Drive is rated an easy drive for any SUV, with great scenery). From there we could separate into two groups, those wanting some 4wd action and those wanting to take the 2wd option.

Given that many of the T4R members don't seem to drive off-road, this trip would be a great middle ground between an actual offroad trip and a carpark meet. Combining a BBQ would also encourage a friendly atmosphere where guys can bring their significant others to chat about girl things while the guys discuss...well....you know. I hope there will be some guys (maybe not from this forum) who will attend with other generations - some maybe well modified for offroading. Would be of interest to anyone with a 4Runner!

So what do you think? Would you be interested in something like this?

I am thinking either late April or early May with lots of promotion. I may be able to even get some give-a-way prizes from a 4x4 shop.

Thoughts?

Cheers
Mark

Yeah, me and the wife would be up for that.

Tomorrow we are off to Death Valley again, spend the night at Furnace Creek campground then over to the Mojave and spend Friday night somewhere there. Since we are going alone I will be pretty conservative about the trails I go on - got to get sliders and a hi-lift jack.

Enjoy DV Dave. I gotta get out there again and do more. Great place. Are you caving again?

If you were looking for an extra vehicle I would have been up. I'm still on holidays! Oh well, enjoy.

98 views and only 3 people.

I'm not organising this unless we get at least 15 people confirmed.

Otherwise I'd rather be off-roading somewhere for a weekend.

Come on you SoCal people! Stop washing and waxing and get off the bitumen for a day, your truck will thank you

Might go, depending on the day chosen.

Been wanting to go to Big Bear again with the wifey, Last time there, I was Mountain Biking with the buddies at Snow Summit where I sprained my wrist on a nasty spill.

Cool..a few replies now

I'm thinking maybe early May. I might do a run myself to BB in the next week or so to have a look at the conditions and what's around trail wise.

I know a few people have other runs in mid May so.... how about May 7th (Sat) or 8th (Sun)?

I need to check my calendar with work. Please check yours too and let me know any clashes - will try to accomodate as many needs/wishes as possible.

Cheers
Mark

Anyone want to run up to BB in the next week or two and scout around? I'll be traveling solo or maybe with just my son so there will be no big lunch/toilet breaks

I think those dates will work for me. I will let you know. I will probably bring my Golden Ret, if dogs are allowed.
