A10MileHusker, myself, and a few of my friends ran Argentine Pass (or as much of it as we could) this last Sunday. We had a couple of stockers and families with us so we weren't looking to get into anything too crazy. We even had a first time wheeler with us at 10 months old!
Argentine Pass is mostly an easy trail until you start making your way up the switchbacks to the summit. It was very scenic this time of year with the aspens changing and the snow capped peaks. Unfortunately for us, there was just enough snow keeping us from making it to the top, but we were still able to make it to about 12k ft before we had to turn back. Below are a few pics from our trip.
Heading up the easy part of the trail, just off of Guanella Pass.....
Coming up to where the trail forks for either Argentine Pass or McClellan Mountain/Waldorf Mine.....
Heading up Argentine Pass from the staging area....
About the end of the line for us. We made it through this particular drift, but even my buddy in his fully locked LC only made it another hundred feet or so. Doug started to slide off the trail at one point and there were a few hairy moments getting him back on track. This is our first stab at the snow drift.....
