huh?

The location of those photos are the infamous Hells Gate in Moab. (There's a few videos floating of a jeep rollin down 6-7 times... eek!)

are you asking why that guy is standing w/ the camera in front of me? or of the guy taking the photo?

The guy taking the photo was actually doing two jobs (spotting me to take the right path up and taking snap shots). that blue line is my synthetic rope so even if it snapped, it wouldn't have whipped thus meaning it won't hurt anyone as there's no potential/kinentic energy in the rope. The rope was used to ensure that I wouldn't roll as I slipped off the passenger side of the wall that I was on (pretty scary I might add when that happened...) Once I slipped off, my changes of going end over was greater so thus the winch cable being used.

Now if you're talkin about the photographer taking the photo: It just happened that they took shots from there. Nobody particularly felt comfortable taking shots from behind showing the extreme angles as if the truck rolled, it'll flatten anyone in the way so thus the reason why no rear shot w/ the elevation shots. (safety first)

Anyway I hope I was able to answer your question as I wasn't sure what ya meant

I meant the guys with his hand on the rope. I have not used a synthetic rope and have not researched them much. My FJ40 had a winch cable, and I snapped one and saw what it did to a tree. That is why I was wonder what he was doing with his hand on it while it was under tension.

I would love to find a winch mt bumper for my Runner but there are none. Well not unless I undertake what you did, build my own. I did all the work on my FJ but do not have the shop I use to. Oh well! Know where I can find one?

Yup it's a synthetic line so if it snapped, nothing would happen. It'll just drop on the floor unlike the cable.

If a cable snaps, the energy stored in the rope would whip and cause serious injury. The synthetic line does not as it does not store any energy so if the rope did snap, it'll just drop to the ground.

If you do plan on getting a winch, make sure you swap out the rope w/ a synthetic line. Warn now sells synthetic ropes w/ their winch btw (as an option). There's a few vendors out there sells different variety of lines too! Personally I love my Amsteel Blue synthetic line...
