10-13 front bumper- alum. vs steel

As the title states. What are everyone’s opinions on going with an aluminum front bumper over steel? I’m not bouncing my rig on rocks, but my last overlanding trip left me with a (temporarily) detached bumper. It clipped back in, with a few battle scars and a small tear on the bottom.

Now this has me considering a front bumper. I’m not a fan of a lot of the designs for the pre-facelift 5th gen, but CBI and Addicted Off-road make options that I like. However, I didn’t see any aluminum options for those.

Does anyone know of a decent looking aluminum 10-13 option?

I’ve read that thread.

I’m reminded every time someone posts in a thread with something along the lines of “use the search button” or “read this” that forums wouldn’t continue to have much discussion and there may not be updated info if everyone was referenced to threads made years prior.

My mentality is to add the question to an existing thread to keep the information concentrated rather than have numerous threads that generally cover a similar topic.

I just got Hefty Fab Front and Rear Aluminum Bumpers. I too don't do any "real" rock crawling, my adventures take me to the mountains to ski, to the trails to camp and to dog shows. After getting them on I am really glad I went aluminum as I can feel a slight increase in weight in the rear, but a good planted type of weight if that makes sense. The front I can't even tell a difference it acts the same as my stock bumper which is great. Front 55lbs approx, 65lbs approx in the rear with the aluminum bumpers. Its what fits for my needs. I know Pelfreybilt makes an aluminum, but solely for the 2014+. CBI just came out with a aluminum front, might be able to make it work with a 2010-2013 (would want to call to check). Ive also see @pictorian_4runner make the hefty fab aluminum front bumper work with pre-facelift lights. Iv'e never driven a steel bumper 4runner so can't speak to how the driving dynamics changed.

I hadn’t considered Hefty Fabworks, but don’t hate the look of it. It’ll definitely be one that I consider....and I may not need to change springs since the front is only going to be 30lbs heavier than my setup now with the hidden winch mount.

This was something I hadn’t even considered. TYC headlights (what I bought for 10-13 Trail headlights) for 14+ are about $230 and I’ll finally have projectors, which will be nice. Time to start looking at 14+ bumpers :cheers:

Do NOT get TYC headlights, from what I read they have horrible output. I got two OEM used headlights for under $200 off of ebay.
