1997 4runner. wound you buy it?

1997 4runner. would you buy it? PICS


1997 Black 4Runner Limited 4x4
144,000 miles
has cd/dvd player in dash (really nice btw)
aftermarket roof rack
new "fj" rims and new tires
automatic
tan leather
sunroof
everything works

I took it to the dealership today to get it checked out and they said it needs....

• upper intake gasket
• valve cover gasket
• front sway bar bushings
• font end links
• rack and pinion mount grommit
• and a timing belt and tuneup ( it runs perfect imo)

he origionally wanted $6800.00.
we negotiated down to $5500.00

would you buy it?

5500 doesnt seem to bad at all for that. It looks nice. all that dealer ship stuff sounds like mostly BS. Some gaskets leak a little like valve covers, I wouldnt waste any money on those small details. except the timing belt if it had not been done around 100K

is it rusted out underneath? if no, then I would buy it (i almost said wound).

all of the things listed by the dealer are normal wear and tear and if you take care of it from here out you may end up with 256k on a 97 like i have. go full synthetic when you get those gaskets changed out.

Yeah the dealership stuff sounds petty to me. How do they know it needs a timing belt? I doubt they actually pulled off the cover to inspect it.

do you know for sure that the timing belt/water pump was done at about 90K miles ?
the other stuff you can do pretty cheap, the timing belt and how much rust would be my main concerns.

Last October I picked up my 97 Limited 4x4 with e locker for 5900. It had 158,000 at the time. It was by far the best deal I could find at the time. I know youll love it once you have it!
