2 more inches of Lift

SteadFAST 4Runner

I am posting this thread because I spent too much time trying to find the answer searching using the forum search tools. I got results that were not for a 5th Gen 4Runner.

(Also, I already did the Body Mount Chop and trimmed front and rear of the front fender well.)

I have Bilstein 6112s in the front and I need about 2 more inches of lift in the front for my 295s

Would adding a 1" or 2" spacer up there on top of the 6112 be a bad idea?

How about a 1" body lift, I did a search for that and its tough to find info or reviews about that as well.

Anyone that has 295s or bigger what did you do to get the proper clearance when the suspension is under articulation.

I’m not a Toyota expert but in my research I’ve learned that adding a spacer lift on top of bilstein lift is a big no-no. Mostly due to the top and bottoming out of the shock.

I also looked at the body lift and found very little info on that. One guy on here bought one recently and has mentioned doing a write up on it but that’s not available now so no good to you.

If your truck is a mall crawler that barley sees any off road and if it does go off road it’s just up someone’s gravel driveway you might be ok with that spacer on top of bilstein but I believe even bilstein says to not put spacers on top their shocks. To me that says enough to find a different route.

Not much help but hopefully some clarity. Good luck.

There was a thread somewhere here on a body lift.. think he ran into issues with the steering linkage extension or something like that.

At that height you will need a diff drop too as CV angles would be ugly. 6112s on highest collar will ride like crap as well with max preload. Look into taller coils

OP what are you actually rubbing on?

Currently I have to trim a little more of the front part of the fender liner... no biggie

I havent done this yet but it looks like if I was under articulation and wheels turned that I would be hitting the body mount (even though its trimmed back a lot).

Do you have corrected or adjustable upper control arms, and have you had an alignment?

Well, a body lift would do you no good then. From my understanding, the body lift adds spacers between the body and the frame, so so wouldn't the body mount stay where it is?

Also, you might know this already but, caster should be closest to 4 within spec and camber 0.

Take a look here. Maybe DeepSea can chime in.

Are you talking about the FJ trd pro kit? I have it on mine with a toyotech spacer in the front and a Wheelers spring in the back.

TheWraith has the 1" body lift. Although, the body lift in not required to run 295's. I have 315/70's with the Icon lift of ~3". BMC must be done (which you state you have). I have done the BMC twice, the second time I pulled the rubber pucks to get in tight with the cut and weld. Pinch weld needs to be smashed and also beat in the back of the fenders (floor boards) with a BFH. To get the 315's to clear, I also had to take about an inch out of the fender wheel opening. I do not think that is required for 295's

rochmpr Wow, that is a cool build thread... and thanks for the info about what you did. Esp that photo of how much you chopped ... i guess I have more chopping to do.

Also, going to the highest collar setting on my 6112s would be a negative thing? Taller coils would be a better option?

OR

Just keep trimming and cutting from front?

Take your wheel spacers off. That's causing the problem. Then see how you look.

I also have a 1" body lift. No issues with it at all, although in this case it won't help you. Push your alignment further forward (3.7-4 degrees of caster) and remove the wheel spacers as stated above. Wheel spacers create a larger scrub radius which is what is causing you to contact at full lock.

I would recommend purchasing a "lifetime alignment" deal from a shop (I use Firestone). Then you can tweak and adjust your alignment as much as you want without breaking the bank. Especially if you're actually wheeling, it'll get knocked out of alignment at least a few times.

Agreed on the wheel spacers and obviously a 1" BL won't help clear the body mount so BMC is mandatory. My 4R suspension is sitting at 3.5" front and 1.75" rear lift. The 295/70r17 (33.5 x 12) MTZP3s needed a lot of fender chopping & pinch weld pounding but I also run the 17x8.5 SCS wheels with their fairly aggressive offset/backspace. So your tire & wheel choice will be indicative of how much clearance you will or won't have.

Thanks for your reply, I have seen the videos of your 4Runner on Youtube many times.

So how did you achieve the 3.5 inches of lift in the front?

Are these my current options?

 1. Go to 5th notch on my bilsteins
 2. Stay on 4th notch and add in 1/2 inch spacer mount
 3. Install taller springs and drop down to first or 2nd notch

My wheels are 17x9 and -12 offset 4.53 b/s with no wheel spacers installed.

We used the notch above stock (.75") on the Eibach shock, paired with 2.5" Eibach/Toytec coil and 1/4" top plate spacer. If I did it again, I'd just get adjustable coilovers that can go up to 3.5"
