2 Problems New w/2007 4Runner...help

To All:
I have a new 2007 Limited 4WD V8.

I LOVE the truck!!!!!!!.........but two things I wonder about.

1. Just after I come to a full stop, the transmission seems to surge a bit and it feels just like the car behind me gave me a quick but light tap on my rear bumper?

What in the hell is causing that????? Is that normal?

2. I like to drive with the back window open, but the smell of the exhaust is so putrid, (especially when excellerating) I have to close the window.

Any of you guys have similar problems?

I'd like a little feedback before I call the dealership.

The AC can cause a surge when the compressor kicks in. Are you driving with the AC on? My Tacoma did the same thing. With the AC off you may not feel it.

The foul smell could be from the catalytic convertor breaking in. It smells like rotten eggs. The rear window down while driving causes the exhaust to waft back in the way the air moves around the car while going forward. This then brings in the funky smelling air. The earlier model 05's I think had a TSB for making the smell less noticable. I thought this was worked out in the 07/08's. It's pretty common if you look around. Camry's, Tacoma's, 4 Runner's all have issue with this smell at one time/model or another.

You might want to ask your dealer if it doesn't get any better but it may be pretty normal for a while.

My wifes new Toyota Camry has that same stop-surge you talk about and it bugs the heck out of me! I don't know what it is??

If you look at the top of this forum section ("Problems & Warranty"), you will see that there are "Sticky" posts dedicated to both of these issues with many, many posts.

You may be able to get some of your questions answered there. There is a TSB for the sulfur smell, and there is a Lexus GX470 TSB for the driveline clunk. I haven't been keeping up on these issues, but I think someone here may have tried the GX470 fix on their 4Runner.
