2004 V6 SR5 vs 2006 V8 Limited- Better Resale Value?

I am about to buy a 4 Runner and was looking for some advice before I do. I have it down to two vehicles and would like some feedback as to which one to purchase. Both cars are super clean and 4x4. They are in my mind equal at this point.

$17,998- 2006 V8 Limited (Sunroof, JBL, 18 inch rims,Leather)- 90k- Timing Belt is Changed- 3 owners, has always been serviced at Toyota

$16,899- 2004 V6 SR5- 48k- 1 owner



What would you choose and why>?

There's a lot of factors and options to consider. Sunroof? 4x4 or 4x2? Pictures or links?

I would probably go with the newer Limited.

What would you choose and why>?

It all depends on what you want out of a vehicle. I have an 06 V6 Limited and love it. I totally dig the creature comforts such as the JBL, leather and heated seats. The mileage is a bit higher on the V8, but you also will get more bang for your buck and one of the most expensive repairs has already been taken care of. I think it comes down to if you want more power and luxuries VS. lower mileage. Take care of whichever you buy and they will hold good value. However, I would think the limited would sell for more, ultimately. Especially if you don't rack the mileage up like crazy.

Aside from the differences in the engines, which have already been covered ad nausem in numerous threads, it comes down to personal preference on what the trim packages offer, the mileage, and the price.

I like the amenities a Limited has, but it wasnt a priority. I got an SR5 trim packaged '04 V8 with many Sport features that the original owner chose. It was a great setup IMO, but I would not have minded if it included seat warmers on the cloth seats hwell:.

Beside the differences in the V6 to V8, I would go for the 06 alone just for the cosmetic updates of the 06+, the 5 speed auto, and the Limited package if you prefer all the luxury items. I personally own an 08 Limited V8 and love it, its such a smooth engine package and a huge bonus with having the timing belt already done. And as far as resale value, you really can't go wrong with either, these 4Runners hold their resale better than most any vehicle.

Thanks for the advice. Another issue with the 2006 is the tires. I will definitely need new tires within a year. Any way to get these 265/60/18 for way less than $1000? Seems like every tire is up in that price range.

Nope $1000 is about right for an 18" rim you might find some cheapo's nut you get what you pay for and tires are not on place I cheap out on usually..

For what its worth....I just purchased an 04 limited v8 with 116k 4x4 last week. I LOVE IT. The idea of having the v8, that is very smooth and reliable....with similar MPG of the v6....how can you go wrong! The timing belt was an issue for me too, but like that one you are looking at, the one I purchased, it was done recently. I test drove both v6 and v8 numerous times, but I kept going back to the v8. No regrets thus far. There is my two cents...Limited with the V8 is a winner!

I purchased an '06 Sport about a month ago with a V8 (first Toyota). But I got the bigger engine because I plan to do some towing.

I have to check the Tach regularly when sitting at a red light, otherwise it's difficult to tell if the engine's running, it so smooth and quiet. It idles at right around 500 RPM. Wife says she can't hear me pull into the driveway, which is right next to the house (but she can sure hear me grumbling about something from 200 yards away, lol).

102k miles on the vehicle, no regrets - If I had it to do over, I'd get the V8 again but it all depends on the purpose to which you intend to put the vehicle.

This should give you a idea what they going for. Winter is a tough time to buy a suv 4x4 vehicle, best time to buy a convertible LoL.

$18k is a tough to spend on a 90k vehicle. $16k is where i am thinking it should be at,
