Hello everyone,
I introduced myself in the new member section yesterday. Long story short: purchased a 3rd Gen '99 4WD V6 Limited 4Runner in 2003. I loved that truck and planned to drive the wheels off of it. However, after two years it decided to throw a rod on me at 79K miles. Fast forward 7 years and I am in the process of buying my wife a '08 2WD Limited 4Runner, thus becoming a 4Runner owner once again. I certainly hope and expect this one last longer.
I have not yet inspected or driven the vehicle, but have agreed to the deal with it being contingent on my satisfaction upon inspection. The dealer has to paint the front bumper because of some minor paint chips and paint cracking. Once that is done, they are going to drive it to me, let me inspect and finalize the deal if I approve of the vehicle's condition, etc. I know this type question has probably be asked a thousand times on this forum, but is there anything in particular that I should look for when I inspect this vehicle. I know the usual things to check on a used car, but am not too familiar with the 4th Gen 4Runners and the 4.7L V8. This one has 51K miles on it and according to the maintenance records has been regularly maintained by the dealer I am purchasing it from. The Carfax report, although not really reliable, checks out good too. I plan to inspect it on this coming Wednesday and hopefully close the deal the same day. Any words of advice, pointers, etc are greatly appreciated.
