2012 or 2013 grand cherokee

is it any good?

i've had 3rd gen and 4th gen t4r and wouldn't have thought twice about buying the 5th, except that it came out too decontented... (going from full-time awd to part-time awd for SR5 model was what did it for me...)

anyways, thinking about jeep grand cherokee but not sure about it's reliability. i like to keep it for 5-6 years without major repair and chrysler workers drinking on the job makes me nervous and question it's built quality.

on the other hand, recent reviews seem to indicate that chrysler products are markedly better than even few years ago...

anybody whos long time toyota owner gone to chrysler product? how do you like it or dislike it so far?

Good luck with that search--you'll find plenty that dumped a Grand Cherokee for a 4Runner, but not many going the other way. The GC was definitely the Jeep model to steer clear of for most (if not all) of its life, with many reliability issues. Maybe they've gotten better recently (those Mercedes engineers may have fixed some things our locals couldn't--LOL), but I personally wouldn't trust one--especially when compared to a Toyota.

Really? Anyway, don't do it if you are basing your purchase on reliability. Chrysler has a reputation (still does, I don't care how prettied up they've decorated their cars lately) of building crap. Check out this link and check out the rest of the thread as well:

Even if you plan on having it 5 years, you will run into problems. Sure its free (under warranty) but you have the time/patience for that?

X2. The Jeep is "nicer" but is full of "issues". Not worth it.

older JGC do appear to suck, i've never owned one but i have owned a few dodge trucks and i am willing to stand my ground and say they are as tough or if not tougher than any GM or Ford truck i have owned with the exception of the lackluster 47re transmission. basically what i am trying to say is reputations are inflated

You're talking about a whole different animal now--I'd gladly take a Dodge if I was in the market for a full-size truck, but those have almost nothing in common with a Jeep Grand Cherokee except their corporate headquarters.

Personally I would never buy a Chrysler product but thats just me. If your looking for someone to say "yup sure they are great" I don't think you'll find it here but you might find it Here

chrysler is some of the biggest junk in the world. how bad do you have to be to get bailed out by Fiat??? just look how many models of cars they have discontinued over the past 10 or so years. The PT cruiser cant go 100k without blowing the engine, i've seen that from second hand experience TWICE. That thing got about the milage of a jeep wrangler to, lol! literally, about 14mpg hw. chrysler is known to be pretty much the worst of the worst, i would buy a pontiac before i bought a chrysler. :nono:

My mechanic just bought a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland and so far so good for owning it for 3 months?

As for my experience with Jeeps, I leased a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo V8. Loved the V8 and All Time AWD but that was it. In the 2 years of ownership had electrical gremlins pop up. Then I bought my 97 4Runner SR5 (still have) and replaced it with a 11 SR5 and couldn't be happier.

I spend the last 10 years and almost half a million miles behind the wheel of two Grand Cherokees.

The first one was a 2000 Laredo with 4.7 V/8 and Quadra Drive. I put 280k miles on it, the engine and transmission were great and still running good and passed CA smog inspection when I sold it. I changed the oil every 5k miles with synthetic oil and had the trans serviced every 50k miles.

The second Jeep was a 2004 Overland with the HO 4.7 and Quadra Drive. I traded it in on my 2012 Trail Edition at 218k miles. Again the engine and trans were excellent, the front differentials, not so much. I had the one in the 2000 rebuilt once. But the 2004 3 times and it was starting to make noise again when I traded it in.

Your trouble with Jeeps is not so much with the engines and transmissions, but with all the electronics, window regulators, electric door locks, seat heaters, and so on. Especially the HVAC blend doors.

The full time 4x4 system provides excellent traction and is easy to use, the vehicles are fairly comfortable and I got a lot of good miles out of the two that I had.

I seriously considered the new WK2 2011-2012 Grand Cherokee, but decided to give Toyota a try this time.

The blend doors are a problem on all sorts of cars not just jeeps. My Chevy, my Dodge and my Audi

It's not like every Chysler product is going to be a complete hunk of ****. Just like how not every Toyota is super reliable. Every manufacturer is going to have there lemons. Its just that your much more likely to end up with a lemon if you get a Chrysler.

So you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky?....Well, do ya, punk?

I toyed with the idea of grabbing a '11 GC before I found my Runner. I test drove a few, nicely appointed inside, great looks on the outside IMHO, not as much interior room as I was looking for. Overall though, nice truck. I'll definatley consider one again in the future.
