Recently sold my 2004 4Runner and replaced it with a 2015 Grand Cherokee Overland. I would have gone with the 4Runner again, but I really can't stomach the looks of the 5th gens (sorry 5th gen owners!), so I decided to take a chance on the Grand Cherokee and hope for the best.
Well, I do love the looks and the incredible features on the new GC....but in all honesty, it's a big piece of shit. I've already had it back to the dealer (with less than 500 miles on it) for transmission problems, which they haven't been able to fix. The overall quality of the vehicle is so sub-par for a vehicle that stickers at nearly $50K.
Here's a quick list of the little things that truly suck about it:
1. The headlights suck horribly. I didn't think it was possible to mess up HID xenon projector headlights, but Jeep sure managed to do it. The light pattern is splotchy and uneven. They also seem much more dim than other cars I've had in the past with HID xenon headlights
2. The turn signal arm feels like it came right out of a 1975 Buick. It actually snaps & crunches when you activate the turn signals. Feels really cheap.
3. The fit and finish of the vehicle is horrible overall. My driver's door isn't aligned properly and sticks out about 2mm further than the leading edge of the passenger door. It's noticeable enough that it almost looks like the door isn't shut all the way. And the passenger door looks like it is positioned too low, making the chrome trim around the windows not line up properly.
4. The touchscreen display works okay overall, but at times it is non-responsive for a few seconds and then quickly "catches up" to my presses, which of course it does all at once, making it jump too many presses. Really annoying.
Anyway, some of this stuff can be corrected (like the fit & finish issues), but the transmission is really what bothers me. I'm looking forward to the 6th gen 4Runner so I can dump this Jeep and never look back. I just hope Toyota has the good sense to bring the 4Runner styling back to something attractive again:clap2:
