2020 Apple CarPlay Volume Issue

Has anyone else had volume issues with Apple CarPlay? Waze was so obnoxiously loud compared to the normal volume used for non-CarPlay related audio that I had to completely disable sound in the app. On the other hand, Spotify and phone calls come in quiet through CarPlay and I have to raise the volume.

What I would expect is for the volume to be equal across non-CarPlay related sound (Bluetooth/Sirius/FM/Toyota nav) and all CarPlay apps, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Anyone have this issue or know a way to resolve it? Thanks!

yep. same issues with android auto.

while using android auto in my 2020, my google maps is disgustingly loud and disproportionate to any music being played. And trying to mess with the volume levels from the phone wasn't working.

It's turned me off from using it at all.

Android auto in other vehicles wasn't like this.

Yeah, I’ve definitely noticed it as well...but I am not surprised since this is the first year with this headunit.

I had a 2016 Honda Civic which was the first year that model had Apple CarPlay and there were volume issues all over the place. When receiving a a call, the ring would come at full blast...dangerously loud regardless of where the volume was set. I would have to quickly turn the volume down as I saw the screen alerting me to the call. Definitely clipped my speakers pretty bad. As I recall, Honda/Apple eventually slightly improved things with an update...but the damage was done and it was never truly fixed.

I want to play around with things a little more, but it seems like the headunit remembers a different volume for each different app/audio source.

I have definitely noticed that phone calls over CarPlay are very quiet.

not sure if this is the issue, but carplay has different volumes for each "type" of sound. Music, Siri, and phone calls all use different volume settings that are controlled independent of each other

Android Auto volume control?

Hay anyone been able to figure out how to adjust the volume of Android Auto navigation in 4Runners yet?

In my Audi, you simply use the car's volume control to adjust volume during an Android Audio notification or navigation alert. In the 4Runner, turning the volume knob has no effect on Android Auto.

Using the vollume rocker on my phone doesn't seem to do anything while connected either.

Seems like a huge and incredibly annoying bug to me, but perhaps I'm missing something?

I noticed that with Google and Waze in CarPlay. Radio and call volume fully adjustable, but the CarPlay navigation was extremely loud. It's been a few months since I fixed mine but I believe there are volume settings in the apps (hi, med, low) that you can set to moderate them. I set mine at med as they were defaulted to high. I will confirm when I go out today and try to see if I can find how I did it.

Apple Maps used in CarPlay has a volume setting in the “driving” setting in the app on your iPhone.

As far as Apple, it’s going to be the settings on the phone that make the difference. I’ve noticed that some apps can be volume controlled from the car’s main knob, but only within a certain range.
