Hesitation/Stutter at 1900 or 2200 RPM
I have a 97 SRS with 140K miles.
I am also having a hesitation issue with my 4Runner. It's been happening for almost two years, intermittently.
It is a momentary hesitation (or stutter, per previous post). It is literally about a half a second, where it's as though the engine is not getting gas fore that split second. In fact, the first time this ever happened, I had just filled up in a remote rural area and I thought for sure I got some bad/dirty gas. This was supported by the fact that the first time it happened, it hesitated a few times in a row, much more than a split second. Over the next 2-3 weeks, the issue subsided and I thought I was free and clear. HOWEVER, I would end up with this split second hesitation, every once in a while: sometimes twice a month, sometimes not at all. Finally, it stopped all together for about 6-8 months.
Then, out of what seemed like nowhere, it happened again. Same cycle of events as the first time it all started. Hesitated a number of times during and shortly after initial "event". Then over a couple weeks, it diminished, and now it

Fuel filter is a good guess, except it wouldnt be so intermittent or of such long duration. The specific RPM it happens at points to throttle position sensor. Read the manual for test proceedures.

Hmm, I get something similar on my 94 4runner with the V6.
Mines almost 100% to do with the engine being cold though and it happens on a regular basis (like everyday)
Thinking it might be the injectors dirty or something. Seems to work itself out after ive run it for 10 mins or so at higher revs (2500+)
Not sure if its worth having them looked at / cleaned. Not sure of the cost involved.
Spring is just around the corner so we'll see how she goes in the warmer weather.
