22RE loss of power won't run right... help troubleshooting

Mechanic seems stumped. When we adjust ign timing to the recommended 5% it stalls and only has about 1/2 power. Put in a new TPS and doesn't improve. Only when I advance the timing does it run with 90% power, but still doesn't run at 100%. This has been a problem since I bought it from PO about 2 months ago. 160k miles.

Any tips from the 22re gurus?

The TPS is very picky and needs to be an OEM unit, aftermarket units are garbage. You need to adjust based on the voltage specs outlined in the FSM, not just "by ear". Also look into replacing your engine coolant temp sensor (not the one wire sender). Those little guys go bad and cause all sorts of bad issues since it thinks the engine is running hot/cold when it's not and will kill power.
