2HI vs 4HI when windy; TS Fay driving.

Its a great feature. I switch to 4Hi when it rains and it makes a world of a diffrence when changing lanes, when hitting a puddle of water or when taking off from stop. I didn't try during windy conditions but I will make sure I give it a shot.

Thanks for sharing:)

I ran it in 4wd friday morning - the souther bands had a bit more water and wind than the leading bands? Thr. the eye sat on us all day - this storm was stupid but we needed the rain. Gave me a chance to drive through some deep stuff. I think it's good to run the 4wd once a month so this gave me a chance.

Although I do not have that option because I'm always in 4wd , BUT it is a nice feature. If I had a v6 and was driving in high wind , rain , ect I would put in in 4wd ( NOT LOCKED ) of course. Even in down pouring rain covered road I feel so confident in the handling , as it would be with you in 4wd (not locked).

This 4wd system has so nice variations to can use in different situations . For instance I was pulling pushes out on our property and it was nice I could drive in 4lo without binding and thing or tearing up the terf. Between the selectable 4wd and the selectable locker (center) and the Atrac is a nice system. A option locking rear diff. would put the icing on the cake. ( and a VSC on/off switch )...lol.

I absolutely love ATRAC .

...The second I switched to 4HI it was instantly glued to the road and went perfectly straight. Having a center diff and the ability to run 4HI on the pavement rocks! :bigok:

I had driven Subie's and Audi's and liked them. In those you can't run in 2wd though so it's hard to fully grasp how much of the stability is AWD and how much is the car.

Yep. Handles better and tracks straighter. Imo, the VF4 transfer unit with rear biased Torsen-C center diff has been the single biggest differentiator and value maker in the 4th gens compared to the competition.

Just curious, after having felt the difference, do you expect to run in AWD more often?

I use 4HI quite a bit even before this latest post. I use it towing and when we get a Florida downpour for the added stability. If I'm just driving around with no special conditions I use 2HI to save some gas even though it's not that much difference in MPG.

I also use 4LO at the boat ramp. The ability to use 4LO (NO diff lock) without having the t-case bind is another awesome feature.:bigok:

What prompted me to post was how windy it was... I wouldn't have imagined a 'glued to the road' feeling no matter what; to my surprise the 4HI was able to 'glue' it down.

:iagree:, the t-case is one of the most differentiating and defining features of the T4R.

It's actually 4wd mode (AWD's do not have T-cases ), I can't remember the % it drives to the front and back under normal driving conditions . I thought it was 65/35 and would slide to to higher if needed .

Like JB said it's an awesome system and really sets it apart.

Oh Yeah!!

There was a huge storm last winter in Northern California, I just put it into 4Hi.

Even w/ a solid frame SUV, it still shook around on the freeway.
