3rd Gen AT questions

I have a 1998 T4R 3.4L 2WD with low miles on engine and trans. I want to pull the engine and trans from the 2WD T4R and install it into my 1996 3.4L T4R 4x4. Would I have to swap a 4x4 trans for another 4x4 trans or will the 2WD trans work?

If the transmissions are designed the same as they are on the Tacoma, which I believe they are, no it will not work. The output shaft is different. If you search on the Tacoma forums, there have been people that have done it by pulling apart the tranny & swapping the output shafts, but it was very labor-intensive.
