3rd Gen Long Travel Questions

Hello everyone. So this summer i'll finally have the money to lift the 4runner.
My plan was to do a prerunner style build and while looking around at a few different lifts, I came across this build thread.

What i guess im asking is, how does this work/what is this do? I'm rather new, and there isn't much info around on it.

Long-travel kits are just that. They have much more travel range than a normal lift. They're usually designed for vehicles that travel across uneven terrain at high speeds. Think stadium truck. And keep in mind that they are more expensive than just the kit. You have to take off and replace your front fenders for one as the stock ones don't have enough clearance to accommodate for the added travel.

On the link I posted, did you see the picture of the triangle shape piece they welded to the rear frame? The new shock mount? What does this do (Is it just too allow for more travel?)

Its a cantilevered suspension design. Basically the coilovers are mounted horizontally instead of vertically which allows for lots of travel but you won't have a coilover sticking up in to the bed of the truck or the cargo area of the 4Runner.


I have to ask, are you going to use a LT kit for its intended use? Last time i checked, not much desert in FL. Not trying to be negative but you may just want to look into a good standard or mid travel kit which will save you a few grand and not have to deal with the extra work of having a full LT kit. Yes LT kits are badass, but so are trophy trucks and KOH buggies and I sure as hell would not want to DD one of those.

Yeah, I suppose your right. I'm going to start looking into other options yet keeping that desert racer look.

Florida off road sucks. It's all mud and sugar sand.
