3rd Yakima crossbar over doors??

So one of my main gripes about 4Runners when I switched from my Jeep (way more pros than cons and I'll never go back) is that the rails for the roof crossbars don't run the length of the rig. Yes it would cover the sunroof but sometimes its needed. As in an 18 foot kayak. I just don't feel comfortable strapping that down when the max spread I can get currently is about 3.5 feet between bars.

I currently have a Yakima setup with 2 crossbars using Control Towers, hooked into Landing Pads in the stock rails. I'd like to add a 3rd crossbar over the front doors. I think my only option is something like Q-towers but I've never used that style before. I think I've seen some Tacos running around with canopy racks and an extra crossbar over the cab which is similar to what I'm after.

Anyone out there run a similar setup for extra spacing of their crossbars? Pictures?

I'm planning to use a q-tower up front to haul my kayak. I have the towers, but I've not tried it yet. Maybe you could use landing pads up front. I really wish I had the rain gutters my Cherokee has.

Which style of q-clips do you use? Looking it up on Yakima's site it looks like Q-62 clips are recommended.

Q-62 clips is the correct one.

As long as you do both front & rear inverted "V" tie downs you should be good with the factory setup.

Just got those Q clips in the mail. Install this weekend. By the looks of them they install over the door seal? I expected them to slip under the seal. Have you had any issues with water leaking?

Also did you go 44" or 38" fairing? How's the wind noise with one?

I use the stock rails and the Yakima Q towers up front whenever i need to haul around paddleboards/kayak. It works out just fine to be able to balance it all out across the whole roof.

Mounted today, digging the new setup. Bit of a PITA to mount solo compared to my other yakima stuff. Fairing is on the way.

I'll be using landing pads to do a fixed point mount with Yakima control towers. Look into it. I removed my factory tracks already since it didn't have enough spread and used Yakima tracks to extend. I'll have my fixed point mount just ahead of the sunroof.
