is the interior really that much larger? seem pretty comparable even thought the LC is much larger. I'm guessing the interior is wider, but the trunk doesnt seem much larger, esp when you factor in the 3rd row seats of the LC

The LC has a lot more leg room and shoulder room. The 3rd row seats can seat more than midgets. But with seats folded, the LC only has a slight advantage in overall storage room. The LC gives up some storage room in order to have all of the underbody parts tucked in for off-roading, and the design of the 3rd row seats.

If you unbolt the 3rd row, the LC had quite a bit more storage than the 4R, which is what most overland use owners do.

FWIW, I was comparing the 3rd row 4Runner, which is what I also own, which loses about a cu foot. Regardless, IMO, 3 or 4 extra cubic feet of storage space is a big difference. Like having room for an ARB fridge or not. Or like the difference between a 4R and much smaller highlander for example. Yet the Highlander has more leg room than that 4R, as they don't make it to go offroad. The LC also seems to have more useful cargo space as the cargo area is flat with second row lifted (again, comparing to my 3rd row 4R, now sure what the 2 row version is like).

The passenger areas of the LC are not drastically larger than the 4R. The LC has a longer engine bay to hold the 5.7, and is a couple inches wider and a bit taller. They actually aren't too far off in size. It's not like we are talking Tahoe vs Suburban. I don't feel like the LC is harder to park or maneuver, but I do know if we are taking a large group how much more room we have.

I know a lot of LC owners don't like the way the 3rd row folds to the side. A bit nostalgic I guess, but not space efficient. Removing them adds close to 8 cu. ft. of space. The 3rd row 4R loses about 1 cubic ft of usable space compared to the 5 seat version. And the LC seats are somewhat difficult to remove.



Outside of internal dimensions, one thing to keep in mind regarding ground clearance is a LC can handle 33s and according to one mud member, 33.83" or 285/75/17 G2s with no lift. I run 33s with full mudflaps and no rubbing. I was somewhat surprised a 33.83 wouldnt rub...

I believe the 4R maxes at 32.1 with no lift. I also think the larger diff housing is part of the reduction in ground clearance with the cruiser. I haven't measured, but I always feel like my LC has better clearance off road. Not that either 4R or LC have great ground clearance, (raptor has 11.5 stock and the L4r is over 12"!) but both LC and 4R have sufficient clearance for me.

Do you wheel hard and often? Do you have family members? Do you plan to put mods on either truck?
The land cruiser is the king of Toyota and arguably the toughest and most off road capable stock vehicle out there, so it may be an overkill for most people especially singles.
A 4runner is more than enough for most off-road enthusiasts if mods are done right.
