4Runner way of life - Thank You!

Our family has never been into camping and has always preferred traveling with ALL the creature comforts. But, since buying my 4Runner in December and seeing all of the incredible adventures posted on this forum we have started talking about camping, off-roading and getting away more often.

I feel like pitching a couple of tents, stoking up a fire and getting some hiking/paddling/etc. in will be a great way to break away from the rat race and clear the mind.

Without the 4Runner I would have never gotten into this forum. Without the forum I would have never seen all the outfitted trucks. Without the outfitted trucks going where they were built to go, I would have never seen all the scenic places some of you have been. Without seeing the scenic places you all have been, I would have never been motivated to go explore. So thank you!

Now it's time to mark some trips on the calendar, gear up, then go!

Congrats!! Just remember to not gear up with a bunch of stuff you dont need just because it looks cool. Go out and explore, then you will find out out what you really need.

Well said OP! Having grown up with 4Runners my father owned, it was inevitable that one of my first vehicle purchases would be a 4Runner (03' SR5). I had a 4 year hiatus when I sold it and went back to school. This forum kept me in the driver's seat vicariously - adventuring and exploring. Now, days away from my new 17' TRDOR, I'm thrilled to get back to it. OP, good for you for taking that crucial step forward and I wish you the best in your coming adventures. Safe travels!

Definitely go out and take those trips an adjust accordingly. Like mentioned above many vehicles have a bunch of stuff to look cool. But many on this forum have gone out on trips and found out what they needed and gone from there. Depending on what you're doing and where you're going you may need a few things, beyond that things become a luxury that make the experience more enjoyable but might not be necessary.

One of the biggest things I've learned from this thread is to not let anyone tell you what you can and can't do. Ever since getting my T4R and outfitting it I get asked by random people, "Why make that an offroad vehicle?" or "Where can you even go with that?" Our vehicles are extremely capable even in stock form and can take us to places unimaginable.

Also here's a link that helped me get going. It has some great ideas and some reasoning behind it all. Don't be afraid to ask questions but don't forget to search first because it more than likely has been asked and answered several times over.
