I recently purchased a 98 4WD and have been doing some miscellaneous maintenance/upgrades while waiting on suspension parts to come in. My gear shifter was loose so i bought some new bushings to replace in the gear shift assembly. The bushing replacement went fine but my gear shifter no longer wants to come out of park.
I attempted to remove the gear shift handle to make the installation easier which i think may be what caused the issue. Looking for some guidance.
When i press the button on top of the shifter to engage and shift from park the "tab" does not clear the channel. If i really put some muscle into it it will come out of park but extremely difficult to get back into park as well. If i remove the two screws on the shift knob and pull down on the shifter the button will engage, but once i reattach screws the button does not engage enough to engage. (i know this is confusing)
Any known remedies to fix this? Really don't want to purchase a completely different gear shift assembly.
