98 toyota 4runner

I have a 98 4runner that is in great condition. Runs great. My problem is while driving to work the other morning the vehicle went out of control and almost caused me to flip over. I drove approximatly 1 mile to work (at about 5 m.p.h.) to discover that the rear control arm/tortion bar that goes from the frame to the rear axel had broken. Ok, went to garage to have part replaced. I was told by the mechanic that i broke free from the frame, and a body shop would be better for the job. I went to the body shop and they told me that it is undrivable and unrepairable. This is the same year in question on the tacoma frames. Toyota has pretty much told me too bad, " Its not there concern." How can i have a vehicle that was never in a wreck, always taken care of, is only 13 years old and be unrepairable? Has anyone here had or heard of this problem on the 4runners. All of the frame is solid except for passenger side rear, Sound familiar Tacoma owners?

Post some pics, I'm curious as to why this can't be repaired. And if its a safety issue Toyota should fix it. Or my mig welder can fix it.

I will get pix as soon as possible. Frame near mounting area so deteriorated there is nothing to weld to.

where are you located? I'm guessing road salt is the cause.

I know that people have fixed that mount before, but there has to be enough of the frame left to repair it.

The 4runner frames are not as bad as the Tacoma frames and Toyota won't do anything about it.

If both sides or both front and back were bad I would accept the road salt theory. Only place rotted is passenger side from tortious bar mount to the back. 13 year old car that's worth nothing but scrap. Toyota needs to do something.
