ok....heres the situation...i have a 1991 4 Runner, that i bought as a project....i have NO IDEA what has been done, maintanance wise to it other than the few things i've done. The other day, I replaced all 3 belts.....its been roughly a week, and had no issues, til this morning.....I started the truck, and within 2 min the A/T Temp Light AND Battery light came on....So I figure one or more of the belts are loose.....Not sure what all the belts do on these vehicles. I do know that when i "gas" it the lights go off, until i let out of the throttle. Then they come back on.....So I'm wondering if when gassing it, the belts are obv turning faster, therefore creating enough "spin" to charge the battery, but why are the 2 lights coming on and off together???? Am I missing something? I do know the altenator belt is loose, because I can "turn" it over....if it were tight enough i should only be able to turn it a half turn or so.....right?? Any help is much appreciated......Im lovin this classic ride......To have little to no maintanance so far its a good truck.....

Your coolant pump and alternator are on the same belt. Tighten it.

^^^^^ agreed.. i hat this happen twice.. once it was the a/t light and batt light, the other time it was the antilock rear break light and the voltage guage was reading 11v. but both times it was either a loose belt or cut wire going my alternator.

Update.........so i finally figured out how to wedge a pry bar from underneath the truck to get the belt tight enuff to turn the battery light and A/T Coolant Temp light off........just as when i changed the belts....it ran great and had no issues for about 3 days......then yesterday......after driving it home from work.....go back outside.....crank it up and wham......lights on again.....the belt is no more loose than it was when it got tightened........im at a loss.........could it be that the altenator is "going bad"......??? I always thought altenators were either good or bad.........period......no inbetween......PLEASE HELP!!!!!!
