Acronyms recently not understood

We use a lot of abbreviations on this forum and that other one YT.

So I always try to spell it out once for the only occasional user.

Okay I will go first-making sure-is "IMHO" meaning- In My Humble Opinion? I think I got that one right.

Likewise IMO is just -In My Opinion...

correct me if I go astray this is how I learn.

The smilie emoticon with sign saying "RTFM" that is "Read the F***ing Manual" yes?

So what please is "FTW" ?

FWIW is "For What It's Worth" yes?

add a few more or maybe there is a link somewhere on all of these?

Is this a generic "text speak" language my generation is still learning? :redbrick:

FTW: I confused as well. I think it depends on what context it is being used, as it has many meanings such as:
"F*** The World"
"For the Win"

The examples you gave are all correct, btw (by the way, hahhah)

When confused, I google it.........

FTW is "for the win" which people use to basically say "that's the best way" or that's the best something...car, tools, whatever. That one's kind of dumb "IMHO". I'm 32 and haven't grasped on to all the new lingo yet either but I'm learning too. x2 on googling the acronyms, that usually will tell you what they mean. I really hate when people say "lol" in regular speech, it makes me want to PMFUTA - or "put my foot up their a$$" haha.

WTH - "what the hell?"

For the Win-that's like game show lingo back in the day....when dinosaurs ruled the Earth

Ha yah that MILF one- I know a few it seems- acronyms that is- how is that for a recovery...more correctly that would be MILTF

STFU = Shut The F*** Up. A polite way of asking someone to stop talking.
OP = Original Poster. The lazy way of refering to the person who started the thread.
D/S = Driver side. Much better than saying the left or right side, because that depends on where you are looking from.
P/S = Passenger side. Ditto.
IFS = Independent Front Suspension. Front wheels that can move up and down individually without effecting the other. Not popular for wheeling.
SAS = Solid Axle Swap. Replacing IFS with an axle/wheel arrangment that is rigidly connected from left to right. Popular for wheeling.
SOA = Spring over Axle. Moving leaf springs from a location beneath a solid axle to above it. Gives lift and GC.
GC = Ground Clearance. The distance between things under the vehicle to the ground.
OBD = On Board Dianostics. A way of talking to the vehicle ECM.
ECM = Electronic Control Module. The computer that controls all vehicle electric functions.
ICBINB = I Can't Believe It's Not Butter. WFT? STFU Techno...

I'm 20 and you guys just taught me what FTW is. I never understood that one until now. I know it doesn't really make a difference but here's the way I read these two that were discussed earlier:

IIRC: If I Recall Correctly
IMHO: In My Honest Opinion

They both mean the same thing essentially, just thought I'd put a little twist on them with my way. Also:

SAS/SAC: Solid Axle Swap/Solid Axle Conversion

Both mean the same thing, just thought others would like to know the second one.

A few more...

DRL = Daytime Running Lights (sometimes seen as DTRL)
OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer; another way to say "genuine Toyota" (or whichever company made the car)
OME = Old Man Emu - a brand name (first time I saw it I thought it was "OEM" with a typo!)
FSM = Factory Service Manual - the official repair manual from the manufacturer
C-BEST = Customizable Body Electronic SeTtings - those are the little tweaks Toyota lets you make to the body computers like turning the keyless entry beep on and off or turning the factory DRL's off. They're often mentioned in the Owners Manual as changes where you should "see your dealer" for assistance, because you need their OBD scan tool to make the changes. On a Lexus, this is known as Lexus Personalized Settings (LPS).
MAF = Mass Air Flow - a sensor in the air intake line just beyond the air filter. The MAF tells the engine computer how much air is coming in.
ECU = Eletronic Control Unit - a computer. (Equivalent to ECM.)
CAN = Controller Area Network (sometimes also CAN-BUS) - one of several protocols for the computers (ECU's) to talk to each other and for the OBD scan tool to talk to them. CAN was popular in countries outside the U.S. as an ISO standard for it's higher data rate relative to the other protocols. CAN became standard in the U.S. on all cars by 2008. Toyota put CAN on the 4Runner on 2006.

Alot of it depends on how much you've frequented forums such as this and I'm over 40 and have been on multiple forums for over 10 years and have most of the lingo down but the younger set like to come up with new ones all the time.
