Actual Cracked Bell Housing 2007 V8 Sport

i was driving along and experienced what felt like the beginning of a flat tire. wobbling coming from the passenger side. i was 1/4 mile from my fiends house so i pulled over to inspect and found this. when parked the engine runs like a sewing machine.
vehicle has 196K mi

could it be the mounts?
please leave your best ideas

here is a list of possible suspects from the replies below:
1. mounts (trans and/or motor)
2. driveline imbalance/bad u-joint
3. oil leak from rear main seal?

forgot to mention in the original post i did check the oil on site when it happened to finda normal dipstick and had just changed the oil and filter 3k miles ago.

ill be having it towed to a specialist this week and will report back. in the meantime does anyone have a donor vehicle for parts? will pay shipping. i am in virginia 23451

Wow, I don't recall ever seeing that issue listed on this forum. The closest was a bad driveshaft u-joint cracking the transfer case. That's an odd one there.

I would say your mounts, both engine and trans would be the first suspects. Driveline imbalance/bad u-joint, but I would think you would have felt that.

wow doggie, I"ve never seen that either. In any case, either replace the bellhousing or have it TIG welded. I'd go have it replaced.

That could've been a manufacturer defect from way back when. None of the wear items mentioned would've caused the bellhousing to crack since the bellhousing is connected to the engine, and the whole thing moves as one. This is not caused by "normal" wear and tear of mounts or out of balanced front DS UJs.

See the dark oil coming through the crack? That's not ATF but engine oil leaking from the engine rear main seal, if I were to take a guess. This can be addressed when the transmission is dropped to fix teh bellhousing.

heres what i did and the timeline of how the solution revealed itself to me.
i left the truck parked where i discovered the cracked bell housing scared as hell that id somehow been chosen to pay for all my hot rodding and i dove into all that i could to try to diagnose my transmission or mount or youch frame gasp issue and then like a month and a half passed and it dawned on me. mainly because my friends wife was sick of looking at my truck. i went over to baby it home with flashers or just roll the dice and it didnt really roll like it should when shifting to drive. so naturally i took the parking brake off. and then i laughed my ass off like 8th grade schwag stoney balogna laughed at my stupid ass. and then i peeled out. end of story.

Oh yea just maybe you change your own brakes or if you dont then you werent aware the e brake system on these is inside the drum on the rear and it was grabbing and making such a racket and causing the suspension to “shoulder lean” like a flat then skip and hop while making a terrible sound. i just hit 200k a couple months ago and now im doing a full differential and tcase gear oil service with the new and fancy Toyota standard synthetic. Figured i would go ahead spoil her a bit and shoot for 300. sorry for scaring people. ?

the last jobsite i had been at had like a 45° driveway and didnt notice the brake was on. marijuana was not a factor. it might have been lack of ac so all windows down and the zz top ? ? ?️ that let the sound of the brake shoes get drowned out
