Advice on the 2019 TRD Pro

I was next to one at a light last week. The rack looks close to useless IMO and I'm not into the blue. At all. Does the rack use the same attach points as prior model years? If not, good luck ever getting an aftermarket rack.

I know it's been said before, but the 2019 Pro rack is hideous.

The new Pro rack reminds me of this haircut:

I actually liked the rack on the FJ and from the pictures I like it on the PRO. I may change my mind once mine comes in in a couple of weeks and I see it in person.

I dig it on the FJC as well. But the FJC is a lot more muscular and beefy, it works well with those lines. It's not as proportioned on the 4R.

On another note, anyone know if the mounting points differ from the normal non TRD racks?

I really figured they would go with something other than blue two years in a row.

Definitely distinct. Need to see it in person to make a legit decision on it. Initial thoughts I def do not like it on the 4runner. Especially compared to previous colors. Disappointed in the rack. Right idea, poor follow through.

Pretty sure the difference between the fox on 2019 trd pro and bilsteis on previous pros is negligible especially when it is on road. They are both entry level off road suspension setups.

I've driven both off-road, including a Voodoo Blue 19. Not back-to-back on the same roads, though. But I have pounded around agressively in a 2019 4Runner w/Fox and came away very impressed. Similarly, I've driven a TRD Pro Tacoma w/Fox (they've had them for two years already) and it stood up very well when pushing pretty hard out near Barstow. Entry level? Better than that. Pro Racer level - not that good. Fine for most mortals.

The Fox shox have a distinct advantage over the outgoing Bilstiens - multiple zones of bypass. Theoretically, they can ride a bit softer over the small stuff and add damping like crazy and they approach the end of the stroke on the big stuff. The old pro Bilsteins did not have that functionality. They have a single damping zone, so they can feel stiffer on the road they you might like because they have make the damping required to do the business off road.

In short, both have velocity-depenedent valving that increases with impact speed, but the new Fox setup also has position-dependent damping that varies based on how far they're compressed (or extended) away from the midpoint at which they run on smooth roads.

More than anything, if you have any inkling that you'll ever strip the TRD Pro suspension off and go with something like King, Icon or whatever, do yourself a favor and start with a TRD Off-Road instead.

I contemplated this before pulling the trigger on a 2018 Pro in Black. I probably couldn't tell the difference between the shocks. The sound system would have been nice but I like having storage space where the subwoofer goes. I would have ripped off the new rack anyway and put a Gobi or Frontrunner. The sunroof was no big deal to me as I always had one and rarely used it. Overall I'm happy with the 2018 Pro and wanted to keep it mostly stock and under warranty. I was lucky to get one at a reasonable price (that means MSRP in Socal) since they often go for over MSRP here. I would go with the 2018 and take the extra 3K and start buying mods.
