Am I crazy?

I wanted to thank everyone for the warm welcome and want more than ever to be a 3rd Gen owner however (this is a big HOWEVER) I do not feel right buying a truck (even a Toyota) with 100, 150K miles. I have found them with a little over 100K for 9-10k and I found a really nice Sport (hood scoop) with 147K for much cheaper. Am I crazy buying a daily driver with this many miles? After my Land Rover experience my wife will KILL me if this thing ends up in the shop. I do most my own work but larger problems need the shop. I will check maintenance records as well. What does everyone think? Have your 4runners given you grief? If so how many miles? If not where are you sitting now? I can imagine putting 50-75K on it after the purchase.

Welcome to the forum, mine has 230,000 mile's and i have not had a issue with it. Toyota's will last forever if you take care of them.

My 1986 runner went 347,000 miles before i had to do a rebuild on the engine. And this is because it started to smoke a little. I probably could have just re-ringed it but with what it has given me through the years i figured it was time for me to give back! For toyota if the rig has been well maintained 100,000 is just getting broken in.

I bought mine with 108,000 and it now has 133,000. I drive it daily. No big issues so far. You should be good for another 75,000-100,000 miles with regular maintenance and maybe a semi-expensive timing belt change.

Im afraid to drive behind land rovers no offense but i love my runner to much to wreck it dodging flying parts.. D.D w/227k- aside from some 4x4 issues all is well. regualr maint. and your golden.

Just bought a 1998 with 150K. I look forward to may (many) trouble-free miles.

My first was a 97 with just under 200k. Only problem was the 4x4 wouldn't engage properly. Then I flipped it. Now my new one has 138k and one minor problem which just involves me cleaning a part out.
But one thing to say and its quite obvious, maintain it when it needs it! This is a standard shift and the previous owner had a few tranny problems. All it needed was $10 worth of parts to rebuild the slave cylinder but no he put it off so long I had to get a new clutch, slave cylinder and in the process got a new master cylinder. The master was just trial and error to find the problem. Other than that stupid problem you shouldn't be worried. All in all you will be happy.

Going from a Land Rover to a T4R will be night and day for you. You'll be wondering what to do with the extra cash (let the mod bug begin...!).
