So this is for the So Cal people. Beware Frontier Toyota in Valencia. Had a similar issue with HAMER Toyota as well closer to LA. (The front end service advisors and sales have good customer service... i give them that, i guess.)

Took in my 2020 for the 25k Toyotacare.

mileage when I decided to take a peek at the filters that were apparently inspected and changed...

i opened both compartments to find these babies.
air cabin filter:

closer look between the pleats... msot pleats were this filthy.. yea.. that ain't a 1k mile filter

air box filter:

if they skimped out on such simple tasks i DOUBT the tech actually lubed or torqued anything on the drivetrain. Thank god for resources like this forum and youtube... guess ill go get my youtube mechanic degree now.

Disgusting but not surprising. If you’re at all handy it’s best to do your own easy maintenance.

Damn, that's terrible. I would go back, complain and get them to do every 25k service and watch them do it.

Classic case of the toyota "hit or miss" dealer network. During the warranty period, you're still paying too much for the free services they offer. Both my 4Runners have never seen the inside of a toyota service dept. and never will....sorry toyota!

That sucks! And that is the reason why all I do at the "stealership" is oil change and tire rotation, the rest I do myself, especially in cabin filter and air filter, which I change every 5K.

I definitely left some reviews on yelp and google reviews with pictures :mad2: I sent an email through their contacts on the toyota site.. so we'll see what happens. One thing is for sure I do not trust my truck going back into their service department "to make things right" unless i go back there with it, or just give me the filters that were supposed to be in there in the first place and I move on.

I'm fairly confident on doing majority of the scheduled maintenance with the exception of balancing tires. I guess at this point I'd rather go to my local discount tire shop to have it done there. Eventually once I need to replace my 5 tires, I'll go through them for the free rotation and balance perks. My truck came new with 285 toyo at3s and I do 5 tire rotations, so it might be a bit still.

It still baffles me, though, that since it was documented that the service was done, but not performed... isn't that fraud?

Did you show this to the service department there? I would.

Not anyone in the service department, the service manager!

Fortunately I have a really good Toyota dealer near me, (Tony Divino Toyota), so don't have service worry.

Now my local Subaru dealer is another thing ----.

I bet that cabin air filter needed to be changed at 10K miles which is what I will do from now on along with my air filter. Mine were filthy at 20K.

This is a major problem with many dealers. On our last service for our VW, they spilled oil all over the engine when replacing the top mount oil filter and didn't bother to clean it up. The next morning I noticed oil on the garage floor and popped the hood and saw the mess. I called them up, took it back, and they cleaned it up. But seriously, who the f--- just does stuff like that and thinks it ok so long as nobody notices?!

Welcome to the world of last place trophies.

Send me your old filters. Replacing them every 5k is a waste of money, even if your trying to keep that MAF element squeaky clean.

No magic filter either. They either flow better or filter better. There is always a trade off. :tinfoil3:

You could try calling Toyota Customer Relations at (800) 331-4331 to complain.

Won’t do any good, dealer workmanship complaints just get forwarded back to the dealership.
I filed a complaint for them over torquing the filter and drain plug causing the housing to seize and crack. the dealership ignored all of corporates requests to call me back. CS supervisor said they can’t force the dealership to do anything and whatever the dealership say they will stand behind it .
