Another Tundra Brake Upgrade

Well, I have been searching in order to save some $ and I finally found them.
A Craigslist "part out" 2003 Sequoia. Negotiated the 13 WL Calipers down to $100 and went and picked them up 2 miles from the house. All the pistons work and the pads are near new. I passed on the rotors. Truck had 103K miles.

Went to RockAuto Friday morning and ordered the 2 Raybestos 96931R Rotors (total around $95 w/ shipping) and recieved the shipping confirmation by 3:00pm that day. Saturday morning around 11:00am they were on the doorstep! (WOW, that's fast!)

Got the calipers cleaned up and painted, brake cleaned the new rotors and painted the centers, and cross scuffed the old pads. Picked up a brake hardware kit at O'Reilly's for $3.24 and put it all together.

Total:
Calipers and pads: $100
Rotors: About $95 (with small RA discount code and shipping)
Hardware kit: $3.24
Total: < $200

I adjusted the rear drums last week and the pads are touching the drums for the first time in 30K miles (noticable difference). I almost have an emergency brake!

Can't wait to put them on this week!

Thanks. I used VHT Caliper spray paint in black.

Thanks, I may end up getting new pads but the others look the be evenly worn and still have a lot of life left. I cross hatched the old ones with 80 grit for the bed in. They are semi metallic pads.

As much as I tried to convince myself I could save a little $ this is not the place to do it.

I just ordered some Wagner Thermoquiet Ceramics 5.3" #QC976 from Rockauto for $35.00 PLUS Wagner has a Mail in rebate up to $15.

Now that I have found my center I will wait for my pads.

Sweet.......

Had my wife help bleed them last night, took it out.

I have so much more pedal. I haven't experienced any of the weak pedal or long travel I have heard of.
I did rebleed and readjust the rears. I found that even though I had a minimal loss of fluid I did have a couple of big bubbles come through the rear lines with about 6-7 pump and bleeds from the far line / 3-4 from the rear driver line.

I ended up putting on the Wagner Thermoquiet Ceramics ($30 at Rockauto with a $15 Mail in rebate = $15 ish bucks for Pads!)

Can't wait to drive more!

Nice work! What did you use to clean up the calipers prior to painting? Does anyone know what the dimension is from the stock caliper to the inner wheel rim that allows for sufficient clearance of the 13WL?

Searching for my donor springs for a lift as we speak. They still ride great even with 207K miles.

I just used the brake parts cleaner and taped up the seals and put a few coats of VHT Caliper Paint. I also used Semi Gloss standard spray on the backing plate after cutting and wire brushed some other easy reach items and put a coat of paint on it too.

There are several threads on here with that Wheel dimension info.
Search "hard to find measurements for tundra calipers" or something like that.

I purchased 2006 Tundra TRD 5 stars about a year ago in preparation for the 13WL Calipers so they fit perfect.
