any tips for getting the out tie rod loose.

A buddy and I have been installing an Icon lift on my 4runner over the last five days. We got everything installed along with whiteline lca bushings, poly steering bushings, new napa cvs and oem outer tie rods. Only part we can't get loose is the passenger outer tie rod! We can't get the two bolts loose which attach it to the inner tie rod. I would like to get this replaced before an alignment which the rig really needs. Any tips?

i just did inner tie rods in a 06 f150 today.

Tip. Torch it. get the part that goes around the threaded part of the tie rod hot. drip some oil on the threads and let it burn and soak in as your heating.

(ever soldered copper pipe before? its the same idea with the oil)

when you get the exterior part super hot try and crack it loose.

we could not get the outer tie rod off the inner shaft part but once we torched it with a small blue bottle propane torch for probable a couple minutes it came right off.

torch it and it gets it loose every time

I had the same issue where they were rusted on. I had to use a dremel to cut the bolt. I tried pb blaster but didn't work it loose enough.

Would love to hear any other ways people have used to get the bolts off.

Mine were totally seized. I took the whole inner off (still attached to the outer)and replaced it

I'm assuming we're talking about the jam nut and/or the outer tie rod itself threading into the inner tie rod. Exactly like shootmymime said, torch it. Get it very hot. If you see the rack boot smoking a little bit then you're doing a good job. It may or may not break free while it's still hot, but it's worth a try. If not, cool it down and try again. Heavier duty tools may be needed such as a pipe wrench or something that can successfully grab onto it without rounding it off.

I had success with a pipe wrench, but I have a PNW truck where there is no salt, so even old bolts come off easy
