anyone have a AWD rav4?

I am thinking to get a new rav4 and not sure if i should get basic fwd or awd if they are good for long term is why concern

i plan to keep 7 years etc

My mother-in-law has one that she got brand new about three years ago. It does what it was meant to do, basically be an all-wheel-drive accord/civic with a cute ute body on top. It has not given her any undue problems over the time that she has owned it, and I think she’s now up to about 40 or 50,000 miles. She does, however, think that my 4Runner is quite Pimpin’ compared to her RAV4 even though it likely has less amenities.

I would imagine being in Canada that you'd want AWD.

We just traded our 2006 RAV4 in, back in the fall. It was a great car and fun to drive, but we had the V6 Sport model. It was super reliable and still running great. Most of the reason for trading it in was that my wife wanted something a bit more spacious for hauling my growing sons and the family dogs around. She loves my 4Runner and had some envy (but ended up in an Explorer for the power and features. :tsk: )

If you plan to be happy and keep it for 7 years as you say I think it'd be better to get the AWD. Especially in your situation where you live in Canada. I live in Maine and before we had the 4Runner we had an AWD GMC Acadia, it would have been useless in winter without that AWD.

You should just say screw it in get the new TRD version lol

I test drove the new Rav4 Adventure against the 4R Limited. The Rav4 is a nicer driver on-road and I'd get the AWD over the FWD. I didn't care for the safety features though but if you want that sort of thing but they seemed to work better than those on my wife's Pilot.

When it came to corrugated dirt roads though it was no comparison. The 4R ate it up while the Rav4 felt like a rattle box in comparison. The TRD version may be better though if you want to wait for that as that car's suspension is supposedly tune for such high speed dirt road driving.

I’d probably go with the AWD version. It is more useful than FWD and the resale value will probably be higher.

My mom put a deposit down for the Hybrid version which is coming in a few months.

My wife drives the 2017 Rav4 hybrid, technically it's AWD because of the 2 motors. She likes it, I don't drive it much.

A local dealer near me (Oregon) had something like 39 Rav4s in stock. ALL of them were AWD.
I've been trying to get my wife to check out the new ones, but she loves her Mazda 3, so it will be a battle to get her to stop wanting a CX-5.

Personally I’ll never buy a FWD car if there was an AWD option in the same platform.

At least for my money, use, and perceived value… I would spend it.

My mom has one...AWD...no issues. I think it is 5 years old and has about 24K on it...she is 82 so it doesn't see a lot of miles!

My wife drives a 2012 RAV4 Sport in AWD. Awesome little vehicle. We haven't had any issues with it and it's currently at 85k miles. Handles pretty well in snow.

My mom has had 3 AWD RAV4s. My wife has a FWD RAV4. They are beasts for being little SUVs. And the 2.5L does pretty good in mountains

Depending on what Rav4 model you get, they do have Toyota's brand new Dynamic Torque-Vectoring AWD system. The Limited and Adventure grades have that new system - the lesser models (LE, XLE) have the old school Dynamic Torque Control system, which is still decent in it's own right.

I had a 2013 Rav4 for 3 years and it was good for what I needed: Good MPG, very flexible and versatile interior, and the AWD system got me through two of Atlanta's worst ice storms.

I would definitely opt for AWD, personally. If you have the budget, the 2019 Rav4 Limited or Adventure are both very nice.

The TRD has 8.6 inches of ground clearance. Not sure if the center diff is locking or not but if it is that would be great too. If you can afford it, get the TRD unless they are jacking up the price too much like the they with the 4Runner TRD Pro.

I also have a 2016 Hybrid RAV4 XLE, only has 17K on it but it is a Toyota and should easily last for many years. I rarely drive drive it and the times I do I despise the CVT, I suppose I would get used to it, but probably not. Other than that it is a great little vehicle.

thanks for info guys... my 2018 trd 4 runner is my personal ride and love it

but for business use i have been using a dodge caravan due to needing space but that garbage tranny failed at 135000 km

so thinking for my business use to get a LE rav4 since i can put seats down.

i dont care for the XLE, Trail etc version I just want basic reliable rav4

the LE come in both fwd and awd

i was thinking to get the awd just wanted to get some info before i do
