Bad miss and stutter

Hi I'm new here and a question that no one in my area has delt with. I have a 2000 4 runner limited with the 3400 engine that was running fine with no miss or any other problem. I went to the store and went inside then came out to start the truck but it wouldn do anything not even a click so I popped the hood and tightened the negative cable and it fired right up. I put it in reverse to backed up then drive to pull out but as soon as I gave it throttle it would just fall on it's face and not pull itself just spit and sputter but idles fine in any gear. Had it put on. Computer but showed no codes. Changed the catalytic converter but still does the same. It all started with the neg battery cable. Any advice out there? Thanks

The cable and the mis could and mostly likely just be coincidence.

Start with easy stuff, check plugs and wires. Clean the MAF and Throttle Body. While you have the plugs out, compression test the motor. (Just remember to pull the EFI relay too.)

Probably just old plugs and wires. Hopefully a simple fix. If it's not, go from there. Very odd to have a mis and no CEL though.

An intermittent miss often does not trigger a code. It's pretty common to only be missing when you put it in gear and put a load on the engine, but idle fine. Pitbull's advice is good and the easiest stuff to start with. Check your grounds too, since messing with the negative cable seemed to help.
