Bad running gear noise

Bad running gear noise **UPDATE**

1997 4wd 5 speed.

It sounds almost like an exhaust leak, but its not. Mostly at lower speeds & increases with acceleration, but at a certain speed the noise stops. When I push the clutch in it stops. Coasting--no noise, but when I release the clutch it starts again. Transfer case lever vibrates a lot. Sounds like it is coming from rear of vehicle.

Does that sound like rear wheel bearings or ring & pinion. I'll put it on jack stands tomorrow and see if the wheels have play in them & if I can reproduce the sound.

Sound familiar to anyone?

**UPDATE**

Here are a couple videos. After jacking it up & running it, it appears to be the forward U joints (double cardan?) as well as possibly the output shart bearing on the transfer case. I'm sure one caused the other. The transfer damper had imploded from the vibration. So I'm looking at replacing the u joints & output shaft bearing. Anyone know if I can do that without pulling the entire case?

You're in the 3rd gen section, I would post in the 4th gen forum.

Or is 2007 a typo? Must be because they didn't come in a manual..

Thx. Yes, it is 1997. My wifes is 2007

Jack it up of the ground. Put it in drive and see if the rear diff makes noise. If so it's your bearings. Check diff fluids

It was the Dual Cardan joint on my driveline. Got it rebuilt--works great now.

I've been having a similar noise, this gives me an idea where to look now, thanks. May not be my issues but from the description it sounds similar. I sure hope I don't have to screw with the T-case.....

Even had it on a lift with the local tire shop guy who heard it when he pulled it in and we were both looking around and couldn't find anything amiss.
