Baja S2 Pro in OEM Rear Bumper Help

Bought a pair of Baja S2 Pros that I plan on running in the OEM plastic rear bumper that comes on the 4Runner and had a couple of questions for those of you who have done this, or if were to do it could give me some pointers.

I do have the flush mounts as a heads up.

I have seen this done on here as well as IG, but I'm having a hard time finding everyone who did it so I'm hoping you all can help.

i) Is it possible to run them both with the reverse light, as well as a switch on my sPod? That way I can run them when setting up camp, using as chase lights, as well as when putting the vehicle in reverse. I assume this would be a simple tap in somewhere? Or am I wrong about that?

ii) Will the plastic be strong enough to hold them in place as if I were installing them on a steel bumper. Or should I be looking for/making a custom bracket to put behind so the pressure gets spread over a larger area rather than just where it screws in? Worried that while off-roading or going down washboard road, over time the plastic would be torn and the lights would fall out.

Anyone who has done this or recommendations on how they would do it would be a huge help.

I didn’t run the Baja lights but the bumper plastic is plenty thick to hold the lights in place. I have mine just wired to a switch so I’m no help there. I had lights on a previous rig wired to reverse lights and I didn’t like it at all.

you can tap the hot wire to the 7 pin trailer harness backup light, should be yellow? turn key to on, not engine running, put in reverse, poke wire with test light to verify.

youll need to run the wires up to the cab/battery for on demand switch.

yes doable, not difficult, but time consuming. google "5th gen backup lights" and you'll get some hits from this forum.

I have done exactly what you're thinking (well, with sport level lights, not pros). I tapped the red wire at the taillight (you should verify) and spliced it with the trigger wire from my switch with a diode on each. Lights work as expected, stock back up lights do not come on with switch, etc. This location leaves a little gap in the center of the vehicle, but you can cut them in and install without removing the bumper skin.

What about the back side? Bumper strong enough to hold it as GX said? Or did you do some sort of bracket/washer behind it to prevent the bolts from stripping?

Only mounted in the bumper plastic using the BD provided hardware, so that tiny washer and lock nut. I have no concerns about it ever being an issue, the plastic is both strong and flexible.

Good to know. That was my main concern. I'll still have to decide about the wiring. May just go ahead and run it on a switch alone. Seems like that'll be the easiest option.
