Best 3rd Gen

Been driving the runner for a couple of months now and it has been great!! No issues. I have been debating on leaving it stock or mildly modified.....I really like the ride now and it performs great off road as is!!! I have a lot of rigs and all of them are lifted and modified... so I am thinking of leaving this one stock.... maybe just a few things, like new rims, sliders, roof rack, stereo .....etc

I was wondering why I have adds under my posts??? I did not put them there???

So finally got around to removing the running boards!!

Also installed a new stereo , and yesterday I got some new rims... really changed the look of it!! and I like it!! :-)
I think a set of sliders... and a roof rack would tie it all in....I have been looking at sliders... I really want something low profile..

:edit: LOL, totally didn't read through the thread. Congrats on the truck, it looks great!

Auto/Manual is purely a matter of preference. I've been a manual transmission snob my whole life (including both my 4Runners), but I've recently come around to the benefits of auto. I can see both sides of the coin.

I also used to be partial to the J-pattern simple transfercase and thought multi-mode was just for soccer moms, but my LX450 has a similar setup (full time 4wd/AWD and center diff locks in 4lo) and I have to say there is some merit to just not having to worry about the conditions... but the main benefit to me is I can let me stepdaughter or wife drive it without any special instructions---which brings me back to the soccer mom comment :o

Really my only solid point on the "which year is best" debate is that the cup holders on the 99+ are totally worth it (no joke). Aside from the rear diff locker, this would be my only "must have" requirement.

The best 3rd Gen is the one YOU own! They're getting rarer (and older) every year. Don't make the mistake of selling it!

When I think of the 3rd gen and what might someday end up in a museum I first picture a 1996 4Runner Limited in desert dune, as I think that screams classic 3rd gen. And parked next to it an Imperial Jade Mica (IJM) 5-speed/elocker Highlander. Barrett Jackson anyone?

The best 3rd Gen you would have to make yourself because Thunder Cloud Metallic didn't come in the years 1999 & 2000.

Wish I'd never sold it!

I remember running a google image search on 4Runners summer of 2014 when I was in the market for one. I was deciding on which color I wanted to go with, but I wasn't too picky on what trim level...until I saw the pic of your 3rd gen.

After that, I knew it would HAVE to be an SR5 with a hood scoop.:)

99 sport or limited in black with the multimode 4x4 center diff and the rear elocker. Best of both worlds. Hard to find. All years are pretty reliable.
