buying used Rental 4runner

On the other hand, it's a bit confusing that sticking it to the car rental companies seems to be a big motivator to abuse a rental, when, if what you're saying is true, the rental companies aren't really impacted at all. If anything, it may be the purchaser who buys it after the rental company who suffers, like your fellow forum member who started this thread.
So why do it then?

Breaking out this old thread again in search of more recent (and relevant) experiences. I've given up on the dream of a newer Trail for now and Hertz has some really good prices on 2015 SR5's with 36,000+ miles. I know the risk of them being abused, but as pointed out many times here, that risk applies with any used vehicle. I wouldn't even consider this option if it weren't for the 4Runner's proven durability and longevity. Agreed, a full Toyota inspection is due before signing as well as a solid look over and good ol sniff test to get a feel for the vehicle's general condition.

No I did not. I ended up holding out (selling some body parts and my first born) for a 2017 TRD Off Road. I still don't think this Hertz is a bad idea though. Good luck.
