The sleeper/storage system works for me.

The Texsport SUV tent is a quality product, but I normally just use a tarp as an awning and sleep in the back of my 4RNR.

I used Magnascreens to let air in and keep bugs out.

Yesterday my Windowsox came in, so I'll move the Magnascreens to the front windows and use the Windowsox on the rears. I just got them so no pics yet, They are better than the Magnascreens because you can open/close the window and the door without disturbing the screen.

I made a mosquito net that fits the entire hatch area when the hatch is open;

And I made a screen with magnets for the hatch when only the window is open;

Hey Goatdog, what make and model is this little electric cooler/refrigerator? I have been looking for one cheaper than ARB.

That is the Edgestar 43qt model. I LOVE IT!

It cost me $474 (free shipping), but only because I was impatient. Sometimes they are $399 or even lower.

I have not had a single issue with it and I leave it in there 24/7.

I can't believe I ever managed without it.

Has anyone wired a switch to open the hatch from inside? Since it's all electric it shouldn't be too hard, but I've never had the hatch opened up.

I did this in my 88' 4runner. Used a 2 way toggle with neutral in the middle. Works nice. Also had a switch for my Rear bumper "patio lights" and a switch for the interior cargo lights we had hooked up to the roll bar.

Goatdog - where did you get your WindowSox for your 4Runner? I found one site in N. America that appears to sell them, and they have a lot of vehicle fits listed, but I don't see 4Runner as one of them. Which size did you get? I have a 5th gen. I know the Prado is the Australian version of the 4Runner but it looks a lot smaller and doubt if that size would fit my 2010 SR5s windows.
Any tips appreciated, thanks. I like your setup.


UPDATE/EDIT: Nevermind, I see they do have the 4Runner listed as "Forunner" LOL. I'm going to try this and hope it's a close enogh fit to my 5th gen. Thanks for posting the info on them, they look like a great product for camping in the runner and for my dogs as well.

You guys have some nice camp setups! I love the screen idea.

Yesterday I started to prep for this years early summer trip - 10 days away!

Put the bed in - I just use the big couch cushions for a nice comfy nights sleep. My old back can't take just a sleeping pad. I use a section of camo to cover it up and hold the cushions tight and a thicker comforter on top to give it that bed feel. Only down to 60's at night so a simple sheet does the trick.

Long ago I removed the rear seat so the back folds flatter and I get more room behind the front seats as well. At 6 foot it gives me a full stretch in the bed without my feet touching the rear hatch.
Here is the space behind the seats with the front seat all the way back and plenty of lumbar. The passanger seat is about 1/2 way for lots of stretch out room. Tons of extra storage for the Hi Lift, recovery gear and heavy stuff.

At base camp I push the seat all the way up - look at all that room!

Did you end up ordering the Window Sox for the "Forunner" and did they fit? I think i am going to order some of these.

Window Screens

As mentioned in several posts over the past few years, we do a fair amount of camping in our 4Runner. Even more so than in a tent, ventilation is critical.

A few years ago I bought "Screenz" window screens for the front windows (only offering) and a couple of years back purchased another brand for the rear windows (only offering). I don't remember the manufacturer of the second set but I could ony find them on ebay at the time.

Both models are double screened "pillow cases" that go over the window. Much better and secure than the magnet/velcro models like Magna Screen.

Do you have a close-up photo of your hitch table and seats?
