Can a Toyota Deal run VIN to verify factory sunroof?

Can a Toyota Dealer run a VIN to verify factory sunroof? I want to know if the 4runner I want to buy has a factory or after market sunroof. I had the service department at a Toyota dealer run the VIN and they didn't see it listed in the specifications. Figured I would ask here....

And the reason I ask is that it both rattles and has an air leak at 60 plus mph. It's the only concern I have about this vehicle at this point but its a BIG concern..

Well I guess the ? is is it a pop up or factory electric ?

It looks like factory, it slides back and pops up, just concerned that the dealer didn't find it in the specs...

Aftermarket companies make sunroofs that slide back and pop up. I have personally seen many of them, and they can be deceivingly close to OEM style.

Post up a picture of the controls, I will tell you if its OEM or Aftermarket.

Quick point of reference, if the controls are in the Map light, its OEM. If the controls are in the headliner or on the dash and say ASC, it is aftermarket.

The controls are definatly up with the lights, and everything to me points to it being factory installed. Just odd that the dealer couldn't find anything mentioning the sunroof when they ran it through their system, but could see the floor mat options. I can try to get a picture tomorrow, the pics on ebay and even their website don't show the controls close enough. I am hoping they resolve the issue because I really want this truck, just don't want to roll of with their lot with the sunroof issue. Dealer said it could cost up to $1500 to repair, that being the worst case scenario. The fixed the other issues so I am trying to be optimistic. Below is the link, I have another posting regarding this truck. Its priced a bit high so that is a whole other issue, will be doing some haggling to see if I can get them down quit a bit..

Btw, they are asking Top Dollar for that 4Runner, if they don't want to get it fixed properly, walk away from it. There are many many more options

Thanks DesertCougar, was hoping that is the case. They fixed the other issues so I am certain they will step up to the plate. Looked like the rear tire blew out and wasted the mudflap and damaged the bumper cover a bit. They didn't replace the bumper cover but replaced the inner wheel cover and mudflap. I am fine with the minor damage on the bottom of the bumper cover, you have to get under the truck to see it. They also had replaced the windshield but they didn't get the seal attached correctly, all this is now resolved. So thats it, just want the sunroof squared away (not rigged) and I want to work out a deal with them. The truck doesn't look 5 years old at all, its a cream puff for sure. I am currently driving a 2011 elantra and can't wait to have 4 wheel drive again. I will miss the 35 MPG but man does the 4runner drives nice and feels so solid. Used to have a 2002 SR5 and loved it...

Blown out tire, damaged windshield, messed up sunroof.....issues seem to be adding up on this thing. Especially considering it only has 27k!!

Have you gotten an independent inspection done? Made sure it hasn't been wrecked/rolled/worse? Remember, CarFax/Autocheck etc is ONLY good when there is a problem. If it says clean carfax, you are at square one because there could still have been damage.

That sounds exactly like a factory sunroof.

You can also check it yourself by going here: toyota parts enter your vin and see the parts configuration. If you see sunroof parts, it was equipped with it.

The roof on a factory sunroof well be a stamped out hole. Aftermarket sunroof will have a rubber seal on outside to hide hole cut.

I think you can get a 2006+ 4th gen in similar condition and higher miles for about $10k less. That leaves a lot of room for mods, upgrades, maintenance, etc. I look for vehicles in good cosmetic and physical condition with at least 10k-15k or more miles per year. It tells me that it was driven considerably on a highway at constant speeds. Those are the vehicles that you can deal on. Mileage really isn't as important at all anymore if the maintenance is done. The general condition of a vehicle will tell you much more about the kind of life its had up to this point.

Right. I got my 06 sr5 4wd v8 with 135k for around $11k AFTER tax, title, etc...
